Circular Dolly

I've searched the forums but found alot of DIY Circular Dolly's that people have made. How is this accomplished anyways? I see the CineDolly sold here and its awesome but when it comes to a circular dolly its hard to find a nice one thats at a decent price. Does anybody know of a good one to buy? Or instructions to a DIY dolly that can double as a circular dolly? Some of the homemade ones here are impressive but I wouldn't know where to start.

Check here:

http://www.indiedolly.com/

He has a curved track kit; 4 sections make up a quarter of a 20 ft diameter circle.

I bought a package with a curved track dolly, 4 sections straight and 4 sections curved. Good quality stuff and very happy with it.

I did a series of shots of reenactors using the curved section with a high stone wall as a background. Came out awesome--very smooth.

Do a search on "skater" in the DIY section. A lot of the footage is done with this. Cool toy to have but not a full sized dolly....

Seek ye curved dolly track or a skater-dolly such as the one produced by P+S Technik?

The P+S Technik model costs upward of $5000. There is the similar Axis Dolly available for $1200 here:

Many on this forum have produced DIY replicas, some of which seem to be of exceptionally high quality at a fraction of the cost of the above, such as the following:

There was a skater dolly up on eBay for $250 but the auction has ended:

There are step-by-step photos of a skater dolly construction available here:

I wonder if it would be possible to take one of those and mount a poll on it for a tripod height type of shot with it? With that I might be confined to a table shot which is what its basically made for.

The skater dolly does look cool. But it can only work on smooth surface. Anyone got cheaper solution for the curve track besides indie dolly?

gco - hey, do you have any footage I could see with that indie dolly? I'm in
the market.

Wait, now im confused. Are you asking for a circular dolly on tracks? Or one of those little ksater things that run on a smooth surface on a table top or something.

Hi,

I'm going to try and not pitch or promote the Axis Dolly in this thread, but the Axis Dolly answers some of your questions or requirements. It can be used as a table top dolly or with a tripod (with included leg extensions). It can be used on smooth surfaces, or on track. There is also video showing it in use on the web site. www.axisdolly.com .
