Actually no....I was "directing". I did however have a little cameo during the transfer from Steadicam to the Pegasus LTS (slider) shot. The good news was that I remembered to turn on record so we had the shot (used in the edit) too.
Glad you liked the clip Charles. Paintball paint is water based and the dolly is 100% aluminum with stainless fasteners...so some warm water and a few minutes outside of our studio and all was like new again.
The piece was actually conceived over lunch then arranged and shot in about 8 hours. The Stillmotion crew did their usual amazing job on it.
Ha, I can see that your "don't shoot the camer guy" policy was not enforced. Drew, we're all about helping out the "little" guy as we're not so tall ourselves
In case you're in need of a good laugh, I just updated the first post with this clip. Our guys Chris and Nick came up with this today to answer a few contest questions. Enjoy
Don't let our slapstick same afternoon shoot/edit efforts limit your creative choices The great thing about pasta is that your rig is totally edible should you become stranded in a blinding snow storm, hurricane (pick your catastrophic event etc.) and are forced to subsist on rig parts.
Dennis, how many people are in the contest so far? My week just keeps getting busier and I want to economize my time. If there are thousands I'd rather not take the time. Haha. I literally am getting more things thrown on my plate as the week progresses. I make plans to shoot and something comes up. So I bump the time and yadda yadda. I have about an hour today. I' going to try then. I think I've got a real unique idea. My original one was "bomb" but this is great in a different way.
Guys sorry..it's been a bit crazy over the last few weeks so I'll admit I missed your questions here. The entries (about 24 of them!) are going up as of today in groups of five or so to keep our web site traffic under control. We're completely thrilled that all of the entrants took the time to enter. There is some completely off the wall stuff here with many of them funny to the point that I've had coffee spewing from nasal orifices here in our office
We've been having some pretty serious laughs here...and you've only seen 10 of the 24 so far
Raymond, we seriously appreciate every one of the entries as they all represent time and effort expended to participate. I suspect everyone will end up getting swag packages from Cinevate regardless of the outcome
Dennis, I have to say that this has been a lot of fun!
I must also credit you with giving me inspiration to find new uses for all of the cheap IKEA stuff around my apartment and turn it into makeshift studio gear.
The lazy susan thing was awesome, I've been experimenting with that since the contest and have come up with some really cool stuff. If you get a perfectly lit, uniform white background (like in your Video University clips) you can get away with P+S Technik skater mini type moves since it seems like the camera is moving around the object, rather than the object around the camera. I bet you can even put the camera on the lazy susan and get some really smooth shots. I'm going to try that now!
I have to tell you that the watermelon piece was very memorable. Your riveting gaze right in the opening few seconds had me laughing out loud. If it's possible to achieve a serene zen-like vibe in media that has folks laughing out loud, you did it
