Have always wanted the film look. Finally now i have my dreams fulfilled. Attached are pictures of my very own cinematic rig. Looking forward to use them in my upcoming projects for Happy Ever After weddings,my 2nd short film and possibly an online webisode series . Can't wait to add the Cinevate HD Monitor to this already wonderful setup.

Just blown away by the image quality produce by the Brevis Mp2. in HD mode. It's just amazing to see the depth of field being projected on my screen. If only I have the P2s with me to start shooting HD. Just glad that images looks great too in DV.

Here is my very first test footage. Vimeo URL: http://www.vimeo.com/4779986

First of all, thanks for spending your hard earned money with us. Secondly, thanks for brightening my night too (see below). I'll be sharing this thread at our morning meeting for a bit of inspiration with the team. That's one sharp rig. :)

Looking at this post it kind of jolted me with the realization that we started off with a little lens adapter only four years ago...and here we have a shooter in Singapore using pretty much everything we've made since. With a lifetime warranty on the Durus FF and solid carbon fibre rails, my hope is that you'll be using a variation of this rig for many years to come. I can promise you won't be disappointed with our revolutionary approach to what an HD monitor should be.

Cheers,
Dennis.

Very nice indeed, I have not heard about the HD monitor yet, i saw a lot of different ones at Cine Gear , more info Cinevate HD monitor please? Oh are the gear rings available by themselves as well?

Cheers,

Dennis, is your 30 cm hollow carbon fiber rod built to the same tolerance as the solid version? I'm using the Zacuto Z-mount for my monitor and it turns out that the 15mm rod I'm using is not up to spec to the Z-mount will rotate on the rod even when tightened. I'm looking into the Cinevate one as a replacement but you guys don't seem to offer the solid rod in 30 cm length. Do you know anyone with experience with the Cinevate rod and the z mount?

I have some Cinevate 50 mm rods and mounts and they take quite a lot of tweaking to get them tight on any of ZACUTO's rods and mounts. I am not sure if there is a slight diameter measurement difference but they are not the same size. Now my stainless steel rods work perfect, but not the carbon ones , hollow or solid. Cheers

It's so nice to see something written by Dennis Wood. Glad that my purchase has been an inspiration. The amount of hard work to make this purchase possible was a great deal but I am glad that my dream rig is in my hands.

I can assure you that the products Cinevate has produce are just so easy to use. It allows the freedom of the user to customize their rigs to their own comfort and needs.

It is always a tough thing to decide how you are going to spend your money on a 35mm adapter that is worth the every cent. Went through that process and i am happy to find comfort and quality in using the Brevis 35 adapter. I just got it less then a month. But i am impress with it. It is light, with little or close to no light loss, you have a choice of flip or without. If bokeh control is something that you need, Cinevate has 8 user interchangeable image elements. The Brevis35 is so light that it can be use without a rail system. But to be on the safe side , I got myself the proteus rail system made of carbon fiber. The system can be easily turned into a shoulder mount with the "Monster Grip" and an optional pad. The transformation can be done within less then 3 minutes. Though my rig looks heavier then it seems. if weight is an issue its definitely due to the weight of the HVX which i have problems with even before I had my adapter. Well a HPX170 , always sounds good.

During my test shoot, I can finally figure the importance of depth of field in motion picture.I am glad that now I am given the creative and technical opportunity to use DOF to express my story especially those emotional moments which is very difficult to get with just the HVX alone. DOF does help me to bring focus to my subjects when filming. The Brevis35 allows me to create a wide variety of composition and depth of field with all the available lenses that i manage to purchase for the nikon mount. 24mm Wide Angle, Classic 50 mm, Portrait 85mm. Though i have yet to own a 105mm macro. The results that i have seen online are just amazing. Now I have more creative room that is capable to produces high visual quality. Creatively & Technically, I would say I have an edge over my competitors with the Brevis35. There doesn't seem to be anyone that shoots wedding with a 35mm adapter here in Singapore. I hope to be the first.

One more thing that I wouldl ike t o share. The best part of the Brevis35 would be that I need not worry if i decide to change to a new camera the Brevis35 is an adapter made for all sizes cameras. Truly making it more worth while. I enjoy the whole experience with the many Cinevate products that made my very own rig very personal and customizable.

It excites me to hear about the Cinevate's HD Monitor as something different from the market hope I could be one of the first few to get my hands on it.

Will be working on a short commercial for a tourism portal, will be using my rig to get those needed footages. Will upload some behind the scenes and clips in the near future.

Cheers!

Yes, if you watch the video university episodes on cinevate.com you can see how its adjusted. It's made like that to accomodate different height contacts. Pretty cool that its adjustable. Its crazy how much of an angle the knob can accomodate.

Regarding a previous post about the solid CF rods from cinevate and using it with zacuto mounts, I had the 45 and 60 length rods and used the zacuto z-mount on them. I have had no problems with its grip. They work fine on the rods. No slipping or need to overtighten. Just my experience.

Thanks Arrik, the problem (which I've just discovered) is that not all rods are made equal. I have 2 pairs of rod from the same manufacturer and while one pair provides excellent grip, the other slips all over the place. And of course there's no way to know whether it'll work right until I actually get it. I just might have to go with the Zacuto rods to ensure compatibility even though it's not carbon fiber.

I don't get your question the focus works well even with a matt box. I guess its just show how flexible the Follow Focus can be place or adjusted for different needs.

If you're using our hollow rods, call us and we'll arrange replacement with our solid rods at a heavy discount. The solid rods are 14.97mm with variance +- nearly nothing. We dropped the manufacturer of the hollow tubes as we had too many issues with variance.

Since we started selling the solid rods, there have been no complaints or returns that I'm aware of. We have had at least one set driven over by a fedex truck...zero damage.

Ah, so the angle IS adjustable. I was always wondering how the Durus would cope with differnt sized lens barrels without the wheel being at an angle.

Good to know.

Yes, the Durus FF approach angle can be adjusted, and also reversed. This effectively changes the focus direction for focus pullers who don't like the Nikon lens standard focus behavior. These flexibilities were designed in so that folks cage mounting the follow focus would have the option of using it side or top mounted (upside down) while maintaining the expected approach angle. It's a patent pending design :)

As a side note, based on customer requests, we're about to release hard stops for solo shooters as well as a larger focus drive gear for RED cams. The 19mm rails mount option was recently added to our catalog and has been popular with the RED crowd.

Cheers,

A video that was shot and edited within a single day. Rush job.

Just like to share my experience using the Cinevate Brevis MP2 as an important tool for the creation of this video.

The Brevis MP2 has allowed me to tell a story in a new dimension. The ability to capture shallow focus for the interview with a little bit of blurring to some part of the image allow me to give my audience concentration on my subjects. Driving focus to their expression and concentration on their dialogue. The Brevis was easy and fast to setup. It allows me to work within the tight time frame and has created more time to concentrate on capturing the images that I require. It was a hassle free process. The added weight to the HVX setup has little effect on my arms.

Making the setup as light weight as possible for easy carrying. I had attached the Brevis MP2 with the HVX 202 and a Prime Zeiss 50mm lens and I was ready to film. I am glad that a simple set up like this had produce such a result. Simple and yet effective.

Though the 5D Mark II is a temptation but I am glad to have the Brevis that gives me the film look that I am so desperately looking for. The best part of all, the guys from Gears were very happy with the video.
