Cinevate Flip Module - They're Here!

We're very pleased to announce the arrival of the third revision Cinevate Flip Module. Our retail (CNC alumimun) enclosure is not finished, however the engineering test mules are here, complete with an amazing optics package. The system can accomodate image inversion on targets sized well over SLR frame sizes, has perfect z axis alignment, and on initial tests, is exceeding expectations regarding light loss. We'll be ready to ship the first units in approximately 4 weeks, at a projected price point under $400. They will work with our adapter of course, and any other's out there that can take a 72mm thread :-)

The retail enclosure is approximately 50% less volume, and 60% less weight than the engineering "mules". More information will be posted as it becomes available in this thread: http://cinevate.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1413

You'll also see our inversion/reversion optics package in few very interesting products over the next few months :-)

This is something I have really been looking forward to, Dennis. Especially since I am just about to become a Brevis owner :) But, it's also cool that it's not proprietary in some way... allowing owners of other non-flipping adapters the option to use it as well.

Thanks for the update.

The reason it took so long (3 revisions) was to deal with what we determined to be 4 critical factors:

  • Perfect optical axis alignment, with zero variance possible in the field
  • Zero dust issues
  • Maximum light efficiency
  • Clean (I'd say perfect for our purposes) optics.
Although the engineering mules are tanks, they do what they're supposed to do...align the system perfectly to the optical axis. The "retail" enclosure will accomplish the same role, but with far less size, weight and complexity.

does it have a large "off axis" disparity? like will it move the camera an inch higher than without the flip module?

It does offset the camera vertically, either upwards or downwards ~3cm depending on how you configure it. Our rails systems already allow for this range of adjustment, and more if required in specific setups. What remains exact, is the optical Z axis alignment.

Great news! =P

Have you guys figured out about how much more light's being lost with the extra glass?

He is saying right now it looks like about .5 stops. But, I don't know if that is *official* or not yet.

The thread he linked has the details.

Later,
Jason

WOW...that's awesome. Are you saying the the flip module will render the achromat/lead tube absolete and thus we on't need it?? or do we "add" it to it and making it even longer? (I am mainly talking about the SGPro here)

oh sweet, it's just a pain in the arse framing upside down. Can we see picks of the unit.....pleeeeaaaase(:

Well done. Would you tell us about the size and weight? One of the great thing about the Brevis is the light weigth and compactness. Can we except the same with the flip module. Do Brevis owner get a special price :)?
