Cinevate Announces "Proteus Uno" system...

With of course, a contest :-)

We've had a lot of response from folks asking the question, "Where did this come from"? Proteus Uno came as a result of one request from a fellow, Simon Scheiner, I met in New York (at the New Jersey PVA event last year) who asked for a smaller, simpler, lighter, more compact rig for his DSLR. This is it. I've included a few pics depicting various ways we've been using the equipment here. The system is incredibly versatile with virtually unlimited rig options. Good luck in the contest...we've already had some serious chuckles here from early submissions :-) These pics may bring a smile too. Our sample submission was shot using Uno on Canon's tiny SD940is point and shoot camera in 720 30p mode.

So, the weight is totally on the rifle stock and hand grip? No shoulder pad?

No mount for rods and a ff?

Um, ok.

Mc, one of our most popular products right now is our Proteus DLSR kit which includes offset shoulder support, provision for counterbalance via rearward/downward 15mm rails, and options for 3 lengths. Many of our customers are coupling this with our Titan swing-away mattebox and Durus follow focus. Each of the product pages now hosts a detailed product spec sheet. For folks looking to emulate a full cinematic rig, this is where they should be looking. Proteus Uno is not designed for this market, but rather those looking for something more compact, less expensive, and lighter ... but with all the versatility of our full kit.

Ec, anyone with our Proteus rails can take advantage of the new systems (they all work together) and indeed the grip system is being ported to our full rig too. Hunter, if you consider our price point for Uno is $680, I suspect you'll find the comparison you made even more interesting :-)

The Uno, Durus FF and Canon 5D have turned into my favourite personal rig with one hand riding focus and one hand on the grip. Patrick over at Stillmotion has been playing with one and loves it. His first comment on the unit was some reference to it being the sexiest product we've every made. I suspect he'll change his mind when he sees Medusa. This pic (two Medusa cages) should give you an idea of how modular the system actually is.

Ah, I see. Thanks!

If I can make one recommendation to the Proteus DSLR rig:

Please make an option for a weight belt/spring rod to take some of the weight off of the front for times when you have a heavier rig:

That would be sweet.

Matt, wait until you see what Medusa can do...imagine it turned downwards instead of upwards. It's incredible effective when triangulated back to your sternum...and doubles as a very effective support for low angle shots.

My preference though would be to lose the front support and just use our upcoming adjustable counterweight...which lies against your back and can be removed for use with our jib. Lots of cool stuff coming.

The contest is now closed and I'll admit to some serious laughs on the entries I've seen so far. I believe we're at about 25 clips which we'll be sharing over the next week or so. I never cease to be amazed by how much creative talent is brewing out there :-)

Cheers,
Dennis.

Seriously, make sure you're not drinking anything whilst watching these :-) Day one is up...there were 24 submissions.

Next time i hope...

Great job there at Cinevate as allways.

Thanks Panz for your kind words...we do have quite a few warm fuzzies here on a daily basis. The 2nd batch is up...12 more clips to go!
