Cinetactics Mattebox filter Holders!

I have been thinking about picking up the Cineactics Mattebox for a few reasons(one the price is pretty good, and the makeup of it can not crack or break in the cold as I have seen far too many expensive Matteboxes do here in Canada in the winter time). I have read up as much info here on the product, but I still have a few questions. The first being the filter holders, and how well they stay in place. I do not want to buy some nice 4x4 filters and have them slip out because of lame velcro. As well the additional french flag looks good to me, but does it work well with the product, is it too big, or create a front heavy camera( it does not look like it weighs too much). Thanks for any help, and or thought.

Re: Cinetactics Mattebox filter Holders!

The filter holders are double velcro, and fold in so there is constant pressure on the velcro parts.. so it works very well, in fact the opposite is true, they are a little hard to get out untill you work them in.

As for the french flag, to me its the most impressive part of the whole system, and once you have it you can velcro it to many things to use as a flag. It even can go on the anamorhpic adapter alone.

We just got the new BLACK version, which is very cool:

Re: Cinetactics Mattebox filter Holders!

damnit! if you had a choice between the cavision 3x3 or cinetactics which would you choose? i'm ready to buy!

Re: Cinetactics Mattebox filter Holders!

the cinetactics..doesn't cavision have quite a bit of vignetting??

Re: Cinetactics Mattebox filter Holders!

is there any way to cover the dvx lens when not in use or will i need to take off the matteblox and use the stock lens cover? any dvxuser price for the cinetactics?

Re: Cinetactics Mattebox filter Holders!

Actually boo.. the filter holders come with a little cardboard insert in them. I use that as a lens cap.. just basically pop the velcro fitler holder with the carboard into it and it seals it up pretty good.. and is nice and fast.

Re: Cinetactics Mattebox filter Holders!

great! in addition, i would need a 72mm adaptor, correct? also, the slim or regular version? thanks, and much appreciation!

Re: Cinetactics Mattebox filter Holders!

Make sure you get the oversized French Flag

Re: Cinetactics Mattebox filter Holders!

I was checking out the website, and does anybody know if there is still a package deal for dvx users, including the stepring, filter holder and oversize french flag, like they had before. I just can't find it.

Re: Cinetactics Mattebox filter Holders!

bah i cant remember the link post..could call and ask, or just PM Greg here at the site. .. but i cant remeber the link to the page.. i got the new black full kit about uh 3 months or so ago whe they first came out through the dvx user deal thing.. i think it was the first one actually from the shipment. they are cool though so id problay just call :)

Re: Cinetactics Mattebox filter Holders!

You can still use the Panasonic lens cover even with the step-up ring, though it isn't quite as secure I've never had it fall out.

The box does vignette a bit at about 10% if you have one filter on the camera (a 72mm one, that is, not the 4x4's) and if you don't watch for a developing curve sag on the oversize french flag that will also show up in frame.

These are minor, though: I love the product, good price, and very well made and packaged.

Re: Cinetactics Mattebox filter Holders!

was wondering if anyone tried it w/ an me66 or other long shotgun w/ the oversize french flag? will it get in the way?

Re: Cinetactics Mattebox filter Holders!

Hello there:

Do you know if the Cinetactics Mattebox filter Holders can be used with the DVX100's anamorphic lens adapter?

Re: Cinetactics Mattebox filter Holders!

..yes the flag gets in the way. but you can get a different mount to get the mic out of the way. ..yes you can use 2 glass 4x4 s filters i use a polarizer in it with no vignetting at all on full wide. you just need to get the filter way back into the blox. velcro one side in as far as you can.. tight in there, and then slip the other side in that far too..nice and tight. for a trick on using 2 since its near impossible to slip 2 4x4 filter holders in that tight you can just set one filter behind the one in the holder that you velco in tight. it will sit between the back of the filter holder, and the inside of the soft matteblox, and its not going to go anywhere. its a good way to do it.. cause you only use one filter holder, and its easy to do.
