Re: Cinetactics Matte Box Now in Stock.

From what I've read, a matte box is quite essential in getting quality video? Besides, with a matte box it looks a bit more proffessional; I want people to see my cam and say: "Hey that looks professional" LOL :P

I think that I'm going to buy one once I get my DVX-100.

Robert

P.S. I love the website design!

Re: Cinetactics Matte Box Now in Stock.

Due to unexpected popularity, we ran out of 72mm Threaded Adapters. Thank you, DVX users, for buying so many of our Mattebloxes. We are pleased to announce that the new 72mm Threaded Adapters will be available on December 26th. They will include 72mm threads on the front to allow screw on filters and the lens cap to be used with the adapter in place. We listen to your suggestions and are always trying to improve our products.

I also want to let everyone know we are extending the Holiday specials until January 1st.

Re: Cinetactics Matte Box Now in Stock.

wow charles.. that is very nice... do you have a machine shop?

Re: Cinetactics Matte Box Now in Stock.

I have a friend you helps me out machining parts for my stabilizer but the matte box I did myself at home using materials I thought would fit the bill. It took an 1 1/2 to put it together. Some parts I had saved from many years back and finally found some use for them :)

Re: Cinetactics Matte Box Now in Stock.

Wow.

Wow.

Wow.

That thing is amazing --- what kind of tools and materials did it take? It looks professionally made.

Re: Cinetactics Matte Box Now in Stock.

Thank U for the kind words Moore. The actual matte box is a electrical cable housing used for housing cables to a junction box. I had cut the frame in have to use the section you see. The flags are taken from an old hologen lamp that were thrown in the dumpster. I just unscrewed it from the lamp casings and voila!
The rods are taken from some old piece of equipment also found at a scrap shop. The plate I bought at a hardware store. I use a Manfrotto sliding plate to slide the camera inside the box. I also use a 3x3 cokin filter holder, with mounts for 3 different filters, which I can easily change and just slide everything with the filters mounted, into the matte box. The other parts you see, like the handles, I bought at a at a store that sells everything and everything that caters to handles. For tools I used an industry electrical saw and a professional bore machine to get the threaded holes made. I could have used an ordinary bore machine but I had acces to this tool and took advantage.

That's about it. I'll try and tak another pic with everthing mounted as soon as my digital camera comes back from service.

Re: Cinetactics Matte Box Now in Stock.

I was at Ikea a couple days ago and they have a nice aluminum rod assembly for $7 that supposed to be used for a drawer.. you just need to find a square chuck of aluminum for the plate.

Re: Cinetactics Matte Box Now in Stock.

hey did the big round things in front of the junction box come with the assembly or is that something else?

Re: Cinetactics Matte Box Now in Stock.

Ooops! I forgot about that. Those round things are spacers. They were specially machined for seperating steel coils in a steel industry were I work(gotta bring in the money some way, until I can get my feet in the film industry :) ).
I took two, amoung hundreds lying about, and using an electrical sand paper machine, I carefully levelled one side by grounding it down. This was to make head room for the build-on mic, as this caused an obstruction. This piece is purely for cosmetic reasons. Although it helps even out the edge of the matte box.

Re: Cinetactics Matte Box Now in Stock.

OK, You guys got me excited as well so the order is in!
Can you recommend a basic set of "utility chest" 4x4 or (potentially if better) Cokin filters and where to get them online.
Rock on.
DK

Re: Cinetactics Matte Box Now in Stock.

With all due respect to Cokin, don't bother. Their resin filters are not comparable to decent glass filters from the better manufacturers (Schneider, B+W, Heliopan, etc). Cokin is much less expensive, for a reason.

Re: Cinetactics Matte Box Now in Stock.

WINDJAMER CAPACITY ?

Hi group

All that stuff look great. But does this structure can stay out of the field in a big wind condition ? I mean one the big blue beach. My next prod will be on the Normandie beach in France, with available light, flares...and wind.

Re: Cinetactics Matte Box Now in Stock.

You guys think Cinetactics will still offer the "holiday special" for DVXUser.com members? I missed out on the before holiday special because i hadn't come upon Jarred's review back then. I'd really like to get one of these suckers.  BTW.. anyone used the normal french flag or the oversized one outside when it was windy? How prone to being blown over are the french flags?

PS. what was the holiday special? Price? what did it include?

Re: Cinetactics Matte Box Now in Stock.

Hey Cinetactics sent me the new step-up ring.. what an improvement!. It is now a 72mm-72mm ring.. (not a 82-72mm) This means not only will the lens cap actually stay on the camera better, but you can screw in/out filters without removing the mattebox now.
