No booth this year though they represented at the DVXuser party. Dont want to poo poo on it because it does some great things but it was heavier than expected (they said the real version will be lighter) and, IMHO, the price seems rather steep. RED really blew the direct to disc people a blow with their $900 320GB solution. A year ago, the Cineporter seemed revolutionary and the price was right. The landscape has changed and it looks like that by the time Cineporter is out for $3500, there will be 16GB P2 cards from a 3rd party for $650...
Do the math... for the same price at the Cineporter you will be able to get three 16GB P2 cards, a PC laptop, P2 Genie and 2 battery powered 160GB portable HDDs. I am not saying the Cineporter will be without a purpose but it looks to be a field only solution for me...
good points AshG cineportar was essential some time ago. But technology is moving in a faster pace and manufacturers are ramping up product-to-market of a competing option for the cineporter.
I'm surprised they didn't have a booth. If I remember correctly they didn't have a booth last year either. This close to a shipping date you would think they'd have a little more public presence.
They're not *that* close to a shipping date, if you factor in that the announced date is "summer". Summer goes until September 20th; Fall begins Sept. 21. So they might ship in June, July, August, or September; it's all Summer. There will be other shows where they can demonstrate a working prototype.
IMHO they are going to have to drop the price, significantly, if the real release is in Sept. By that time, 32GB P2 will be out or just around the corner for $1500 or so. Why not get two of those instead of a Cineporter? The current battery life on Cineporter is reported to be 2 hours... so, you cant shoot any longer (unless you are in 1080)
Yeah the cineporter is sounding worse and worse. They better drop the price a lot or im not even gonna consider it. A year ago maybe i would have spent that much on it. No way now though.
