Cinemek G35: Does It Exist?

I’ve also made the very unfortunate mistake of ordering a G35 in August.

When the adapter didn’t ship after over a month, I tried to contact Cinemek. After many many attempts emailing and calling, I finally got an email from Jonathan Houser informing me of the machine shop troubles and that they are not able to deliver the product. I demanded a refund, and I was assured it would be done “ASAP”.

Another month passed, the refund did not come. More unanswered emails until finally getting a reply telling me the “fastest” way to get the money back was to chargeback. I filed for chargeback, yet another month passed, nothing. I called the bank today to see what was happening, and I was told Cinemek is not responding to collection agents, and that the collection process could extend into months or longer.

I can sympathize about the machine shop tragedy, but Cinemek charging customers in full knowing they cannot deliver the product, avoiding inquiries from those customers, and then not refunding the money – these actions are punishable by the law.

it does, but i think their at a stop right now due to the machine shop. its unfortunate that this many people are having such a bad experience with them. They make a great adapter, but they should clarify product times and communicate with the people who are handing over their money. This being said from what i've read on other threads such as this.

paid for my G35 april 8 2009. no adapter. nothing but empty promises from jon houser. He said he would discount when he sent the adapter and also send me Hitchcock iphone app for free. Negatory on both. still waiting and out $1700. nice.

The problem with independent businesses is that there seems to be no business sense. Any large or successful business will tell you that there are two parts to being a good company - a good product and a good marketing/distribution strategy that holds up when its put to the test. There's no use in creating a good product if it takes forever to get the unit into the hands of a paying customer, and clearly, that's the issue right here.

An experience like this would ruin any product, regardless of how good it is or how cheap it is. And its unfortunate that some people have to deal with it now, because I never had to after buying my SGblade. Any time I email Shoot35 with a question I seriously get an answer in five minutes. FIVE MINUTES. Add to that the fact they make a great adapter and its a sublime experience.

I’m working with products from a number of other vendors recommended on these forums, such as Letus, Cinevate, Cool Lights, Redrock, Zacuto, and others – all great products and excellent customer service.

This nightmare with Cinemek was a big surprise and disappointment, not to mention the damage it did to my budget and schedule. The quality of the G35 is no longer an issue, because as far as I’m concerned, it no longer exists.

The problem now is Cinemek owes a lot of their customers a substantial amount of money, and they are not refunding the money even when prompted with collection. I’m worried if we will ever get the money back at all.

1) Get an attorney. Many recalcitrant types will suddenly spring into action when they see an attorney is on the case. A sternly worded letter on a law firm's stationery may do the trick.

2) Notify Better Business Bureau wherever they are registered as a corporation.

3) Notify attorney general of their home state.

4) Notify their dealers that you've been burned by the company.

There's no need to continue to wait and delude yourselves that the company is suddenly going to send your money back. The longer you wait to take legal action, the more it looks like you abandoned interest in your money. If you walk away, then the company has effectively "won" and stolen your money.

Thanks for the advice. I’ve already filed for chargeback over a month ago and was assuming the bank would take care of it. When I called last week, I was told by the bank that they and Visa are both going after Cinemek.

I’ll talk with the bank again and take legal actions to get the money back.

Willam,
Send me an email today and I will issue you your refund.

I've posted this response in another thread but I think that the message applies importantly to this thread too.

We ordered a G35 a year ago. We had issues with it. We sent it back. We did not receive a new unit. After several months of calls and emails we decided to cut our losses - we sent this to a collection agency.

We just, today, received a whopping $150 from these guys. Seriously? We paid over a thousand dollars for this DOF adapter over a year ago and we are now getting a $150 refund for it? Unfortunately the answer is yes. I've got a book load of documentation of this "transaction" should anyone be interested in a good bit of comedy. Is this a scam? I would not say its a scam, but its certainly a shame on them.

I would highly recommend looking elsewhere for a professional DOF adaptor solution.
