Cinemek and stopping down lenses

Hello,

Does anyone know generally how far you can stop down a lense using the Cinemek adapter. Will grain become a problem at F/8 or F/11 or smaller?

Thanks!

It's a little subjective based on a number of factors - lighting on the subject, ambient light, color/texture of subject, the specific lens etc., etc.

Generally speaking though, I'd say that you may want to avoid stops past f5.6 if possible.
(However, any shutter speed is fine.)

Just my opinion of course.

As a fellow G35 user as well, I agree with DMC's take, a lot of it is dependent on your lighting, lens and your composition as well, There are shots where grain can enhance the shot and make it more gritty, if you want a older , grungy look, like for Flashback, but you would'nt shoot a white wall. What camera are using it with?

Test, test and more test.
Cheers

Thanks for the tips...

I think testing is right on. And 5.6 is a good point to keep in mind. I haven't settled yet on the camera package, but I anticipate HPX170 + Cinemek. I am just attracted to the idea of a rock solid system with no moving parts. And I know I will tend to favor a greater depth of field, hence stopping down. (Yup, lots of light needed.) But the organic quality of the 35mm adapter is preferred to the bare video lens.

I have the both the HPX170 and G35 - In my opinion it's a very good combo. I also think that the Sony EX-1 and G35 are stellar for similar reasons.

I find it interesting that you also use the word "organic" to describe the look it achieves - I couldn't agree more!

happy shooting!
