cinemek adapter... what monitor for handheld work?

I have been following the recent threads on all the new adapters and i was wondering... since the cinemek does not have a flip function... what monitors are you guys and gals using? Are you shooting with the monitor upside down... or, do you have a built in flip function in the monitor? also, is it really a pita to flip you adapted shots in post?

the reason i am asking is that i am going to buy either the g35 or the ultimate. i am on the fence... with the ultimate i would get better low light and the flip function, more weight. with the g35 i get a simple lightweight, bulletproof adapter, that loses more light... plus, i would have to buy a monitor. both units appear to be top notch in the image category... and simply because the letus has more components, i believe it would be more fiddly to set up.?

Oh, and the letus will have a relay and who knows if cinemek will so that is also a factor i guess?

the ultimate is 4500.
the g35 is 1700 + 2000 (for the monitor).

what would you do?

I know this sounds like every other "which adapter to buy? but if some of you who are actually using either of these adapters would chime in... it would greatly help me with my decision.

thanks

I think you'll find that a decent external monitor will cost you considerably more than $200.

You can get an excellent monitor from www.manhattanlcd.com for either $500 or $600 depending upon the model. www.smallHD.com also makes a great monitor but will cost you more. Than there's the Marshall, Nebtek, Ikan, ToteVision, etc. all of which are at least $500 and up unless you can pick one up used.

Hey radar,

I got the same dilemma... Love Cinemek's so called bokeh, light loss does not bother me as much as absence of a flip module. I would not even mind buying external monitor but flipping in post is a PAIN.

I find RedRock M2e is a better choice over the Ultimate tho.

Maybe we can get Cinemek guys to give us an update on a Flip Module for the G35 they have mentioned on NAB2009.

PS.
Thanks for the links mvansomeren.

Hey radar,

It is always a tough thing to decide how you are going to spend your money on a 35mm adapter that is worth the every cent. Went through that process and i am happy to find comfort and quality in using the Brevis 35 adapter. I just got it less then a month. But i am impress with it. It is light, with little or close to no light loss, you have a choice of flip or without. If bokeh control is something that you need, Cinevate has 8 user interchangeable image elements. The Brevis35 can be use without a rail system. But to play safe and for the purpose of mounting, I got the proteus rail system that can easily be a shoulder mount with some adjustments and the "Monster Grip". Though my rig looks heavier then it seems. if weight is an issue its definitely due to the weight of the HVX which i am having problem with during weddings. Sometimes i wish I had the HPX170 even without an adapter .

So far during my test shoot with my rig which was done handheld, seeing through the LCD screen on my HVX was good enough. Though it is so tempting to purchase a HD monitor from Ikan or Marshall. But when i heard news that Cinevate is workign on a HD Monitor , i shelve the thoughts of getting a monitor. Unless I can get something cheap for the time being probably a 2nd hand.

I enjoy the whole experience with the many Cinevate products that made my very own rig very personal and customizable.

I am just so happy with my current system.
Pictures of my rig & a video link is on a DVX thread. http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=173565.

Hope you find an adapter tat you like with a good monitoring solution.

Cheers!
Danial
