cinematography degree

hi,
i'm looking for cinematography training videos that will cover all the material that Universities and Colleges are covering for a degree.
i know about all the videos that train you to use premiere or after effects... they are nice but they only teach you the program & menus... not the profession itself.
so... anyone know for videos that covers all that?
thanks

Great documentary.

There are great books and video series out there. You can find a good list of books at Cinematography.com here: http://www.cinematography.com/forum2004/index.php?showtopic=33075

But, as Ryan hinted, cinematography is more than just technical knowledge, just as editing is more than knowing what buttons to press. Get a book, get some ideas going, and shoot.

Play and have fun :)

books are nice, but videos are like being in the classroom :)
so... i'll be happy to hear about some good videos & DVD's that are close to what i can learn for a degree.
thanks

I would have to argue that you won't get 4.5 years and 120 credit hours worth of schooling from DVD's from the asc store.

A good start however, is the hollywood camerawork dvd set.

Hollywood Camera Work looks nice i'll check it out.

(i guess you will not learn only about cameras for a degree ;)).
thanks

Go for Visions of Light. It'll get your heart pounding w/ inspiration. Some parts give me chills.

stop trying to take the easy way out

harsh.

I understand your point, but perhaps you could put it a little nicer and with explanation...

Not everybody has that option to go to film school; if you do, take it. It's not just the knowledge but the networking to that is helpful. Wether you go to school or not, it's going to take hardwork to become successful.

For books, I'd recommend Cinematography by Kris Malkiewicz, or Cinematography by Blain Brown.

I just watched Visions of Light (on YouTube, I regretfully admit) and all I have to say is WOW! Great recommendation. It, without question, was inspirational!

:)

For general cinematography for beginners, I'd look at two books: Cinematography by Blain Brown, and Cinematography by Kris Malkiewicz.

The Malkiewicz book is more technical and covers a lot about film cameras, while the Brown book goes a little bit into shot motivation.

Depends on what you are looking for. Both are great for beginners.
