Cinematics, TrusMT, Lanparte

Hi everyone, I'm in the market for a sub $500 mattebox and I've found these three to be in the range:

Cinematics, TrusMT or Lanparte

Can anyone give me their opinions on which one would be the best?

I usually shoot with and 5d and t3i.

Thanks for your time.

I'm fine with one of these chinese replicas. For the price it's quite well built:

Here's some pictures of my setup:

I would like to afford a "real" one, but as a hobby...it doesn't pay much for the gear!
Still, it's good enough for the price you pay.

I've seen ACs being handed those and they always complain, I've used that specific chinese one and its not the greatest thing ever. ALOT of backlash and flimsy build, but its under 150 so can't complain then much.

I owned the Trusmt and I loved it, very minimal backlash and heavy duty build, but the repositioning system was pretty weird. Never used the Lanparte, if its as solid as the trusmt I'd go for that

As I said, I'm using it for my hobby. I can't afford anything more expensive at the moment as I'm not making any money out of my gear.
If I'd be living out this stuff, then I'd spin the wheel and get something more expensive from the money I'd make with other gear, and so on.

Hey guys, thanks a lot for your input.

@drapeama - That mb looks pretty decently built for the price. If I was on more of a budget I'd definitely check that one out.

@RickyC - How is the repositioning weird on the TrusMT?

Thanks again.

If money isn't an issue, then it's another story.
Also, it would be nice if you could post some feedback about the one you'll buy.

Yeah of course no worries, I started the same back when I thought why on earth I was spending money on gear that never paid itself off, but it did. Eventually :)

If you look at this picture:

Look at the blue knob in the middle (not bottom right) that tightens those two articulating points right there, that whole piece tends to come loose all the time (and disconnect from the lens), it would be easier if it just slid back and forth. I ended up just locking it in one place, grabbing pliers and just tightening the living hell out of it and then just used the bottom circular knob to align it with the lens.

And the quick release part... its alright, but when you have a lens over it and mattebox around it, its not quite effective, but its better than no quick release.

Everything else is made of solid metal, unlike cheaper models. Which is nice, it makes it feel strong, and the extra weight is good.

Last thing was the hard stop marker thing, this I didnt like. To get rid of the hard stops you lift the little guide marker:

But when you lift it, its not pointed at the circular dry erase plate, so its kinda stupid, but that was never much of an issue. Aside from that fact it got pretty loose and I was never able to tighten it, but some gaff tape did the trick.
Another thing I DID like about it, was the removable white dry erase thing, that was pretty cool. Makes it easy to wipe off all those stains and marks.

Its not an Arri FF4, but for the price its pretty damn good

i have both Cinematics, TrusMT so something about these two

Cinematics: 4 flags
Trusmt: 3 flags

Cinematics: can't adjust vertical
Trusmt: can adjust vertical

Cinematics build more solid vs Trusmt.

Responding time when contact via Ebay: Julie from Trusmt is super fast. Excellent customer service. Cinematic is a bit slower.

@RickyC - Hey thanks for your thoughts on the FF. Some great things you pointed out you should turn that post into a review!

@Bubble - Finally someone who has tried multiple matteboxes! Thank you for the info it is very helpful in my decision making. I'm starting to lean towards the Cinematics because of build, look, and the extra flag. But can you tell me have you run into problems with it not being height adjustable? How do you get around it when you have a battery grip for example? Thank you.

@antcuc,

I use Gini apple base to fix the vertical issue. With gini apple base, you can move horizontal/vertial so your lens will align in the center ALL THE TIME. :) I never use battery grip since i run the power of from AB battery

Oh that's great news! I'm on a gini rig also! Cinematics pulling far ahead.
