I've got an old 16mm student film I'm trying to resurrect. I've gotten a "test drive" from Bono Labs of Arlington, VA which included a 24fps telecine transfer of 35mm footage with a 3:2 pulldown, along with a transfer of the same footage with the telecine run at 30 fps. It's sci-fi, and I want to add visual effects, so having interlacing present in post would be a big pain in the keyster.
Cinema Tools did a fair job of removing the 3:2 pulldown from the 24fps clip, but not great. But on the 30 fps clip, I just used the "conform" button and told Cinema Tools to conform the 30 fps clip to 24 fps, and bingo--the footage now runs at proper speed, with "progressive" frames.
I want to tell the lab to telecine my negative at 30 fps (so I can conform it to 24 in Cinema Tools), and my mag sound at 24 fps (so I can re-synch in FCP without pitch change problems).
Is it really that easy, or am I missing something crucial?
