Cinegamma and Color Correction

Dear Friends:

I shot my first footage with the DVX. I used the Cinegamma setting and matrix set to normal.

My footage looks a little washed out, or better put, low contrast. The interview subject is wearing a black shirt and black jacket and the black is very washed out.

Is this what one is to expect from Cinegamma? I think I remember reading that footage can look washed out and needs correcting.

Any suggestions on color correcting?

Re: Cinegamma and Color Correction

Bring up the video scopes and adjust your white and black levels.
Try to do color correction on a real NTSC monitor.
Use 3 way color corrector and adjust the saturation level to taste.
Note that you can make adjustments in chroma, master ped and other settings that would change the image when shot. Doing in post though will give you more flexibility.
