CINEFORM NEO HDV and the HV20

I'm getting a strange smear on every 4th or 5th frame with my HV20 footage, after processing in Cineform Neo HDV.

It looks like this.

Notice how the red is smeared off the red shirt. Again, it's only every fourth or fifth frame, and seems to be worse with the reddish colors (and reddish skin tones).

I'm using Film Scan and the 3:2 pulldown in Cineform's Neo HDV.

Any ideas why I'm getting this strange artifact/defect?

Thx!

Sure thing. Thank you David.

Maybe it's because I'm using Cineform to convert from an already captured m2t file? Rather than capturing from tape. I will try another capture directly from tape with Cineform, and if that doesn't work, I'll send you over a sample of the problematic m2t's.

EDIT: I don't seem to get any of these color smear artifacts when Cineform does the 3:2 pulldown directly from the tape. Looks great to me. So for some reason the m2t files from HDVSplit were not playing perfectly nicely with Cineform Neo HDV. But capture from tape through Cineform looks great so far.

Thanks again!

I don't mean to hijack this thread but I have noticed the same problem of the color not lining up with the black and white (and not just with red). I too captured from tape (shot with an HV20) using HDVSplit and then converted using Neo, which also converted the 60i to 24P. I have prepared two very short clips of the same bit, one in m2t and the other as converted to avi by Neo, which I'd be happy to send you if you want to look into it (and I have lots more examples if you need them.

Although I've been very impressed by Neo and expect to buy it, I must say this flaw is really disappointing because recapturing all these clips for a 2.5 hour movie is going to be a real pain.

Upload the M2T sample that NEO isn't removing the pulldown correctly and I'll look into it. Send me the link.
