hey guys,

i'm a new vegas user and have a quick question. it is a noob question so please bare with me because i don't know much about capturing HD video yet.

with the XH A1, can i capture HD video directly into vegas, then export with vegas all within the same program? or do i need Cineform to import HD video before edit within vegas? i'd rather do it all within vegas but i hear many HD users talking about the necessity of Cineform. i'm just a little confused on the workflow of HD. any help and tips would be greatly appriciated :)

You can and I do capture the XH A1 footage directly via the internal capture program of Vegas. That said these are m2T files (mpg2) which are very CPU intensive during edit. Using the Cineform Connect HD you get the HDLink tool that allows you to batch convert these into Cineform Intermediate AVI's at full 8bit color space and the editing is easier.

This or Raylight is a very valuable tool, especially if you have a non Core 2 Duo computer.

thanks scannon, that helps alot. i have a C2D 6600 so hopefully that will be good enough to use vegas for all of my needs. i just don't like the idea of having to convert video and going through extra steps just to edit.
