Chvrches - Under The Tide effects

So I came across this video by Chvrches and I kinda like it.

But I'm curious as to how some of the effects used were accomplished.

Mostly the performance parts of the video where the singer is in red light. There are some overlays that flicker across the frame now and again.
Are those just a version of creative color burn or how would you achieve those?

Yes, just overlay light leaks.

That video sounds much better with the sound off, and looks much better when I'm in the next room looking at something else.

For the minute or so that I could bear to watch, I think it's just light leaks footage overlaid on top of the singer.
