Chroziel vs Formatt & Pana Anamorphic Lens

Ok so i have a formatt matte box and i'm pretty happy with it.

I want to get the panasonic anamorphic lens and i haven't seen much about using the anamorphic lens with the formatt?

is it even possible?

its fairly confusing trying to figure out all the options and different parts that makeup the chroziel.

is it better to use the bars to hold the chroziel on or will the screw on adaptor do?

what are the drawbacks to the rod mounting?

My understanding from the Product Manager at Bogen, is that the Formatt box is NOT compatable with the anamorphic lens.

There are a number of us who are still not sure whether the Formatt box is compatable with the DVX at all. What's your setup like - adapter rings, etc. Any vignetting?

Re: Chroziel vs Formatt & Pana Anamorphic Lens

I just returned from a documentary shoot in Poland where I used the DVX100a with the anamorphic lens, Chrosziel matte box and follow focus adapter. I must tell you I got burned a couple of times when I zoomed out too far and caught the sides of the matte box. Anyone who knows a clever trick to eliminate that in Post, I am all ears! Because much of the shooting we were doing was observational in nature, we did a lot of run and gun shooting which is why the matte box crept into a couple of the shots.

In short, I'm not sure I'll use it again.

Re: Chroziel vs Formatt & Pana Anamorphic Lens

first off i NEVER had any problems with the formatt.

the mounts it came with were two metal rings, one fit the dvx100a (72mm) and the other was a 50something mm for some other camera.

the way it mounts, according to the bogen rep and the one i have, is where the french flag is attached to the top and obviously folds down, and the filters go in from the bottom.

when i asked the rep (at the dv west show in NYC) about vignetting the first thing he said was "oh you read dvuser?"

his contention was that the only way to get it to load from the top (and to get vignetting problems) on the dvx-100 was to add addtional adaptors that don't come from/with the formatt.

the formatt only fits in this way because if you try to switch around the filter mounting the mic gets in the way.

about the chroziel and vignetting, i don't even have mine yet but i invested in the technical paper available on here and it mentions not to use it zoomed all the way out.

something about using it at 6mm's?

i don't have it handy but i'll look it up later. i think barry g wrote that?
