Chrosziel sunshade and Cavision rods

I snagged a 440-03 sunshade on ebay for use with my dvx-100. It seems that the Cavision RS-1511M rods might work with it. Although I will probably have to make some small connector to the shade. This will sit on a Bogen 503 head.

Anyone have experience with a similar setup?

By-the-way, the shade is very nicely made.

Rods are used to support camera accessories, they take the weight off the camera lens to prevent damage. Most people use them to support a matte box, follow focus, or 35mm adapter.
 
This sunshade is very light. I have been using it without rods and it seems just fine.

I asked a friend of mine who has been a cinematographer for years what he thought about not using rods. He felt that the sunshade probably weighted less than the wide angle adapter and that is used without rods and that I should just not use them either.
