chrosziel follow focus and writeable scale

ok i finally made the final move over to the dark side...

as we all know the most ostentacious accessory you can get for your dvx (other than a mini-35 but we won't go there) is the chrosziel matte box, not just any matte box of course but the 53pk that accomodates the anamorphic lens.

well i finally made that last step into total absurdity, yes folks, i am an owner of a follow focus. :(

it happened like this, there was one on ebay from a reputeable store so i bid like almost half lf what it is everywhere else. low and behold i was the high bidder.

its embarassing to have that many german accessories on your camera, so much so as to double the value of the camera.

btw, anyone know where i can get more of those white rings where you write the settings? and which pen is best?

Re: chrosziel follow focus and writeable scale

Mattie,
Welcome to the Dark Side. I would not even think of shooting anything with out a MB & FF. Oh, and throw in a Pol, Couple Grads & 85n9 if I'm outside. The trick is to shoot like a film guy, not a news guy. So Yes! Welcome.

Just watch your PA's, they want the toys too, but can't afford them. Check their pockets.

Steve

Re: chrosziel follow focus and writeable scale

Are both the Chrosziel 20601S DV Studio Rig - Single Side Follow Focus Wheel and the Century Precision Optics CINE STYLE MANUAL FOCUS f/DVX-100 needed or just one or the other.

Re: chrosziel follow focus and writeable scale

Century makes the best ring for it.. and it's markable.

Re: chrosziel follow focus and writeable scale

i got the chrosziel ring, it was actually less than the century optics (shocking i know) and i wanted to stay 100% chrosziel to make sure it all worked.

i'm talking about the markable thing thats just paralell with the ring you turn with your fingers.

nobody seems to list the replacement writeable surface as a part you can order.

also i like the extension whips but their awfully expensive.

i'm a solo production team most of the time.

i'm trying to do more shorts and god forbid shoot a feature in the next year.

Re: chrosziel follow focus and writeable scale

Super fine sharpies are best. Non permanent is a pretty good idea as well.

Re: chrosziel follow focus and writeable scale

what we do is cover that surface with camera tape and use sharpies. when you're done, remove the tape and replace for the next setup. et voila!!

Re: chrosziel follow focus and writeable scale

i guess i have to now learn what camera tape is?

i assume it is white gaffer like tape?

i'll measure the writeable surface and goto filmtools.com and see what they have.

thank you

matthew
