For a start up production team wanting to film quality shorts and learning as they go would the Follow Focus be a wise choice? I know it will cost $1500.00. If one was starting out should this tool be included?
Please excuse my ignorance. Im making head way everyday!
I think the consensus was that a follow focus was very nice but not necessary for the low budget filmmaker, at least if there are pending, more important purchases to make (sound equipment comes to mind).
Lack of narrow depth of field in prosumer video camera's is another issue this might make it overkill for prosumer video gear.
However, a compelling case for me is the COOLNESS factor, not to mention it will impress the hell out of your clients. Add a follow focus and a matte box and they won't tell the difference between the big boys.. ;D Sometimes you see these things on ebay for under a grand.
