Chromakeying people

No, not the usual blue / green screen thing, what I want to do is create "spooky aliens" by covering actors in primary coloured clothing (Skin tight) then puting them in outdoor locations. In post I will key out the actors to replace them by either a dead black sky / starfield or else luminous flame / light (Two kinds of "spooky aliens)
Has anyone tried anything similar? And does anyone have any suggestions as to the best aproach.
I'm on a low-no budget, but am willing to spend money where it will do the most good.
I'll be shooting with an HVX in DVCPro HD and (Becouse of buget constraints) comping in Xpress pro HD
Cheers,
Dave

It sounds like it should work but make sure your primary colored clothing doesnt blend with anything in your shot. Ive always had good keying with Avid too. you could consider renting some tungsten, and a green screen for a day too, it might be more effective

Haha, I just got a mental image of "Earth Girls Are Easy" starring Geena Davis, Jeff Goldblum, Jim Carrey, and Damon Wayans

Funny movie for a bad 80's scifi
