chroma key within a tracking shot

Hi guys,

I have a tracking shot which passes a tv. Covering the screen of the tv is a hot pink piece of card. I want to chroma key a clip onto the tv.

Given that the tv is constantly moving across screen, I assume a frame by frame procedure is necessary. My laymans understanding of the process would have me do the thing entirely in FCP, chroma keying the pink out and moving each frame of my clip into the correct position. Is there a more efficient way/program i could use?

If relevant: the clip format is XDCAM 720 25p. It's a steadycam shot (filmed at 60p so it's pretty smooth, but not perfectly flat). I'm using FCP 6 but have access to FCP 7.

Cheers,

Hello,

Simplest way is to motion track the TV, corner pin or planar tracking would be the best. Then key the screen place your image attach it to the tracking data. After Effects CS4 would be just fine for this process or any other compositing program like NUKE.

Why did you use pink? Do you have tracking markers or is it set up for planar tracking? Is the background a green screen?

Hope it helped some but I advise to do a bit of research before going on a effects shoot.

Thanks josh,

I'll have a look at which motion tracking will work best.

There are no tracking markers and it's an exterior shot. i chose pink because there isn't any other pink in the shot.

You may be right about my lack of research. I assumed it was something i didn't have to worry about until post. Live and learn.

Take a look at this. I used the same technique for placing the "first and ten" arrow in a football video. It should work well.
