Christmas Gifts?

Hey everyone... just curious as to what people are giving to friends/family for Christmas this year! And maybe this can be a place for some gift ideas as well...

So far I've bought presents for several people. I am getting many of my friends Starbucks gift cards, and Best Buy gift cards... I got my brother and his fiance a trip to Knotts Berry Farm, (which they went to last week) and I am getting my sister two tickets to see "Wicked" in April (it's her Christmas/Birthday present, since her B-Day's in April). I am getting my dad a new lighter, and not sure about the rest of my family yet...

(I hope no one from my family reads this!)

Hey Brandon,

Just came to this country so I don't know that many people. My parents got me an XL1 for Christmas haha (In advance) though I plan to sell it. I plan to get my dad a point-and-shoot camera and maybe some bose speakers. And my mum.... I haven't quite thought about it yet. I honestly have no clue. Small family so there's no one else to give anything to haha.

CDs by their favorite artists, or in their favorite genres, for the people in my department, and the construction team..."Rome" and "Deadwood" boxed sets for friends who are either fans, or history buffs who will enjoy 'em...Henessey & Ingalls gift cards for professional pals...something with Ioan Gryffud for my wife...a new kitchen renovation package, for the last exec I worked with...hard-to-find sheet music for a composer friend...and my wife shops for the in-laws.

Me and my brother are buying our mum a book about an organist. Dunno what we're going to get for our father.

I'm lucky to be so young that I still don't really have to buy gifts to anyone, I just receive lots of them.

:D

theres one where we kill a lamb........ does that count as a gift?

Jkjkjkjkjk..... The lamb thing is true... but its to prepare a feast for the poor.

Umm yea kinda but the gifts are small. like i would never get a computer, PS3, DVX, etc for that gift. maybe socks? a small 7$ box of legos when i was small.

But actually i do buy gifts for my christian friends. which is most of them. and the cheap bastards dont get me gifts in return..... because i dont celebrate christmas.

LOL. They should at least get you something! Maybe we should start a gift for Timur thread, hehe :)

I actually love giving gifts other times of year, since Christmas is so... normal to give gifts... it's sometimes nice to surprise people when it's NOT Christmas.

Probably, to everyone but the lamb...:)

Is that a part of Muharram, or Ramadan?

Oof!

muhharam probably... not sure exactly what that is?

I'm probably mutilating the transliteration...the new year, the time of the Hijra?

I think Muhharam (whatever the proper spelling) is the name of the month...?

well we basically have 2 holidays. Ramadan and the other one. the other one is the one where we sacrifice the lamb.

Brandon - circuit city gift card would be a good choice.

Timur - wow, saving $$$ is great, however, put me on your Christian friends
list and what I want is info, what can I buy low and sell high where you're from.

Brandon, those sound like nice gifts for your family. I'm (trying) to get my kids a Wii console for the holidays as their big gift. I think I must be a real masochist because I feel like I've been chasing ghosts trying to find one of these things since they came out. I came really close on Friday and missed one by only 10 minutes. I drove all over today and was oustside Best Buy in the cold an hour before they opened on a bad tip from a BB employee (grrrr). My kids aren't expecting it, but it's been a really hard year on our family and they've been amazing all year. Unfortunately (or fortunately) , camping out in front of a store is not an option for a single dad. Man, they really hype these game consoles and they had this big demo display of Wii's in the middle the mall, so naturally my kids really loved it, but then I ask where in the mall I can actually get one, I just get a shrug. The thing that bugs me is the people buying these (any any popular toy) just to price gouge on eBay. See, you have something to look forward to when you're a parent. :)

I hear you! I heard all the next gen consoles (besides the X-Box 360) are really hard to find! Maybe try a normal gaming site like EBgames.com or gamestop.com. Maybe try calling them to see when they'll expect a delivery. You may even be able to go to a local gamestop and have them hold one for you or something... just a thought. Hope you find one!

Haha! No kidding! THankfully it's pretty warm in CA, so I won't be standing outside freezing...

Yeah, I've been trying online (nada) and nobody will hold a game--why should they when they sell out in minutes. I had a Gamestop manager recommend that I make friends with a game store employee if I want a Wii. Uh-huh. Normally, I don't try and buy the most popular stuff, but this year I'm trying. It's crazy, though.
