chris penn dies :(

If someone wants to die, why have any sympathy when they do? (I know I've effectively closed the thread with this question, but I feel very strongly about it so...)

I really have no sympathy for people who have a death wish. This guy was trying to kill himself for 10 years. He finally succeeded. You can only tempt the guy in the black robe for so long.
uhm -- yeah because life is a bowl of cherries and intelligent sensitive people never get caught in a downward spiral and addictions like alchoholism are easy to kick and its easy and appropraite to judge other people when you have no idea what they were up against and its especially approriate to do so when they die and make light of the fact that he had a wife and family and reduce the incident to the simple level of putting a gun in one's mouth and carelessly pulling the trigger for no reason at all

I finally got my family to accept that my Mom is an alcholic this year. She's begun therapy and is internmittantly attending Alchoholic Anonymous meetings. While she has far from quicked it, this is a big step as there was a big stigma as far as the rest of my family was concerned about seeking help for any problem outside the family or church -- think King of the Hill.

My mom is also overweight with high blood pressure. She also completed her doctiare this year. But if she were to die as a result of her health problems or addictions this year it would be because she didn't give a f u c k and had a death wish and was in no way struggliing to overcome her problem.

... according to the wise and knowing you.

I really want to tear into you but I won't cause I don't want to get Mr. Penn's thread closed. Besides that's a nice spoonful of bad karma you just dished up for yourself.

Who said he wanted to die? For all we know, he was a slave to addictions you could only imagine in your wildest dreams.

Of course, everyone here would be quick to vouch that below is the mantra by which I live my life.  :cheesy:

"The greatest gift is love. It is not enough to share that love with those we hold dear. Open our hearts not to just those who are close to us, but to all humanity. Let us be slow to judge and quick to forgive, show patience, empathy and love."

I'm a big fan of people taking personal responsibility for themselves. I have grown up with, and been involved with addicts of one sort or another personally and professionally. Everything you do or don't do is a choice, but you have to see it as a choice, which addicts don't. It's up to the individual to make the changes, and it's up to you to decide if you have the right to judge another human being you don't know.

But think about this: How do you know that 2 weeks ago he didn't decide to turn his life around, and was working really hard to do just that? How do you know he hadn't made one of the toughest choices a person can make and was starting to win the battle? You don't.

Beautifully expressed Jim and Jack.

To the average person, our only exposure to the lives of celebrities is through the media. Think about all the bad choices and screwups we make in our own lives and then think about what headline could fit each of these acts. Then think of being judged by those who believe everything they read and don't have all the facts.

You can never truly know someone because internal struggles are very personal and many times cannot be expressed by those who are suffering. If Mr. Penn was dealing with inner demons, do you honestly think we would hear about them and truly understand his struggles?

Life can be overbearing to some. It does not mean they deserve their pain. When someone dies early from some kind of self-abuse, I would hope that we could all be compassionate and not place ourselves above everyone else and act as almighty judges.

If people were judged in a court of law based on the scant amount of information we know about celebrities, conviction of the innocent would be more the rule than the exception.

I'm totally kidding....I was playing along by making my comments ambiguous...it's amazing the power of a smiley --- or its omission.

:)

Oh it is sooooo true. I know you aren't usually that easily offended. But I don't always play well with others, so ...

Wow, your post counts are eerily close to each others.

Here's a few smilies for ya, Steven. :engel017:   :undecided  :lipsrseal    :( :)

Few can match Hudson when it comes to such things. I must meet him someday. Perhaps next Festivus I can battle him in the Feats of Strength.
