chris penn dies :(

I loved him in Short Cuts. I just read it in the news this morning and it saddens me. He was one of these rare character actors, without the star quality of many of his contemporaries, he had the ability instead to portray the average joe. Much undervalued I feel...

Why is it always the best who goes first?

I liked how he did is interview for the DVD bonus features on Dogs in the back of a moving van. That was wild.

Speaking of taking care of ourselves, Mr. Hudson...you winning the battle with Phillip Morris?

I just saw him on a Law and Order rerun last week -- I did think he looked unhealthy.

He was good though - always honest / real in his roles.

Seems like it would be a great deal to be one of Hollywoods most respected character actors if your reference point wasn't Sean Penn. Then it might seem like a mixed blessing -- you're never going to get that role where you carry the whole movie and everyone recognizes your talent ad naseum.

Might have had something to do with the booze (if that's for sure) and the weight (which was self evident of course).

RIP. He was believable and likeable as a young good hearted hick with two left feet and same holds true for a myriad of psycho tough guys and regular joes. We'll miss him in all the roles he would have played.

Yeah that sucks. I loved him in "Dogs", but has anyone seen him in "The Funeral"?
JHFC!!!! what a performance. I will miss the guy.

I heard it on the radio last night within about an hour of his body being discovered. My good friend was friends with Chris Penn. So I immediately called my friend. When he answered the phone he was in such a chipper mood. Obviously, he had no idea what had happened. I had to break the news to him that his friend had just died. He was in total shock. He couldn't even grasp what I was saying for about a minute or so.

I never want to have to be the one to make those kinds of calls again.

I really have no sympathy for people who have a death wish. This guy was trying to kill himself for 10 years. He finally succeeded. You can only tempt the guy in the black robe for so long.

Real smooth guy.

Having no sympathy is one thing.
Going out of your way to point out to people that you have no sympathy is just bordering on bad taste.

Jesus and I thought I could be crass.

I wanted to respond with a quick quip, but figured it would be misinterpreted. So, allow me to say, that sentence is funny because it can be taken a couple of different ways. The mere absence of a comma after the first word alters the meaning... if ya know what I mean.
