I've been wrestling with this for a while now and I'm way past deadline.
Here's the problem:
When I edit my 7D footage, the preview renders are really choppy and it didn't use to be this way.
I've got a dual 2.66 processor, ASUS P5KC motherboard, 4gb RAM, 300gb space on a SATA 7200rpm 8mb cache drive (actually it's two 160gb RAID drives). The files are all on a Seagate WS110 1TB Blackarmor external drive (7200rpm, 32mb cache, eSATA).
I used run XP home and CS4, and this problem started when I installed Vista.
I haven't transcoded the material, because I'm just doing rough cuts for my editors so they'll have something to go on. In other words, I'm not grading or anything, and the 7D footage has always run smooth when rendered green.
So this can't be hardware related. It must be software or a setting I've missed or something.
It's 32-bit Vista. Could that be the issue? Should I have installed the 64-bit instead? All drivers are updated, so is the software.
I've also tried all preview rendering codec option, and they all have the same issue so it's not that.
Anyone? What am I missing here?
