Choppy Playback

Despite my best efforts to build up my system I'm still suffering from poor 24pHD preview in CS3, it's 90% there but still not smooth despite the fact that neither RAM or CPU are being taxed.
My system
AMD Phenom 9550 quadcore 2.2ghz
4GB Ram
evga 8600gt
internal sata 250gb
ext sata drive 320 gb
ext firewire drive 500gb

Is it the lack of RAID drive that's doing it or do I need to upgrade my video card (from what I was reading the FX1500?)

thanks

I would worry about the ext f/w drive being up to the task. The other drives should be fine if they are 7200rpm plus.

I dont know about your AMD processor.

What is the source material?

the firewire drive has the SD proxy material that i've been using and that seems to be okay. the original material was 720p so the files aren't even as big as they could be.
