Choppy Playback Issue on Timeline

Last night everything was working ok, today, not so much.

I'm editing 720p/24pn footage in FCP 5.0.4 on a mac mini (1.83 GHZ 1.2 RAM), yesterday everything was playing smoothly on the timeline and then when I open my project today the timeline (rendered or unrendered) plays back choppy. However the clips themselves still play correctly in the preview window.

Anyone know what the problem is? I'm newly moved to FCP from Avid for this project and still hoping to get a rough draft together by tomorrow.

Thanks!

i would say it's not enough processing power. I would add some more ram.

on a side note, how did you get that footage into the computer? what import setting did you use? i am trying unsuccesfully to get my 720 24p footage into final cut, and have the same version.

To get it in, in 5.x is simply: File > Import > Panasonic P2

Note to both of you then, Apple has admitted in their own white papers that there is a render bug issue with importing footage using 5.0.4. If you import the footage and upgrade later, that doesn't help. As soon as you import it, with that version, you're susceptible to getting hit by the bug. Its a render issue, so if you do any CC'n or other effects to any of those shots you might run into the problem (not everyone has, there were those on this forum that said they never experienced the problem). But again, Apple has admitted the existence of the bug in their own white papers. FCP 5.1.x and up fix the problem (the Universal Binary versions).

Cheers.
