Choppy playback...how can I remedy?

Hi guys.

I beleive I have an adequate PC to edit DVX standard definition footage, on Sony Vegas Pro 10 but I seem to always have to lower the resolution in the preview window to something ridiculous like draft. Its unhelpful because I really cant see the picture how I would like when colour correcting etc. Is there anyway of being able to watch in full resolution without having any annoying lag? My PC specs are:

AMD Athlon II x 4 620 processor 2.60 GHz
4GB DDR3 RAM
Nvidia GT 240 1GB card
Windows 7 64 bit

Thanks.

You should not be having any problems with simple playback (most phones could handle full-res DV with no problem). Do you have a ton of FX on them, or Magic Bullet? Magic Bullet is often the culprit for these things.

Hi David. When I play a very short clip in full resolution , it automatically goes to Preview (half) and this is without any FX.........

That's something different from what you were describing in the OP. Right-click on the Preview window and unclick "Adjust size and quality . . . "

thanks for that David, I have done that and it still continues to lag.......is it that my computer isnt good enough?

Edit-i put the dynamic ram preview max to 1000 MB from 500 and the max allowed is 1024. Still no change........

Try asking John rolfano on creative cow. This shouldn't be an issue with SD. My playback issues vanished with 10.x for my AVCHD.similar specs of machine. I don't think it's the machine.

The higher you make the Dynamic RAM Preview, the less you have for playback. Lower is better.

With your computer, you should have absolutely no problem with DV playback.

I made it lower, tried different numbers still no change.

Edit-I just realised I was editing on a 720p timeline........do I need to render like that to achieve the 720p uprezz or can I simply edit and render on a DV widescreen timeline and uprezz to 720p HD on there with same picture quality?
