Choosing External Blu-ray Burner

Hello,

Leaving soon to shoot a doc in the Middle East and Europe and will be purchasing an External Blu-Ray Burner before I leave. I will be backing my video files onto external hard-drives and also 25GB Blu-Ray discs using Toast on my 17" i7 MacBook Pro. The drives I will carry with me from beginning to end while sending the Blu-ray discs back to Canada as I go.

Everywhere I look I seem to find conflicting experiences with these burners. Wondering if anyone here could recommend one over another?

I'm considering the LaCie, OWC and Buffalo Technology options (are there any others?)

Cheers,
James

I own a OWC, LG model. works perfectly. only issue is that if u leave in a blank bd for long enough, the sucker will never stop mounting, and you see a hundred disk icons on your desktop. just be sure to pop it in right when you're ready to burn. All the ports work great, haven't had a hiccup with it using encore cs5. I'm sure toast will work the same. Lacie was way too overpriced IMHO, and don't know anything about buffalo other than their hard drive lines are typically epic fail...

Thanks!

I was about to pull the trigger on the OWC LG drive when I read more than a few negative user posts about them on forums.

It's good to get a balanced opinion because I often think you see more negative posts about products because the happy users are less inclined to post at all. It only takes 3 angry users to post wildly and it starts to sound like the gear works for no one. If the 97 "happy" users also posted on forums it would be a different story.

So thanks for your success story!

James

I just bought the OWC LG model and am waiting for it to arrive, it sounded like the best option to me, hopefully it will be!

Once you get it I'd love to hear how runs! And also what system you're using it with and via which interface.

I'll be using whatever I buy on a new MacBook Pro via FW800 (preferably).
