Century's .6x is the most affordable choice, I believe, at about $320 from B&H. It's very wide, but not full zoom-thru.
Panasonic's lens is full zoom-through, but a little more expensive (around $400) and not nearly as wide (at .8x).
Keep in mind, you don't want a cheap wide-angle converter. Anything that goes in front of your lens should be of the highest quality -- otherwise, why bother shooting on a good camera?
cavision has one but it gives similar results to the century.. you cant really get much better though. Ebay sells crappy ones for around $100 that will give you half ass results though.
I've heard from a few people with the Century Optics 0.6x wide adaptor lens but hadn't seen any sample photos online. I just got one and in case anyone wants to see some sample still frames both with and without the lens (with the DVX100 zoom at full wide), I posted some here:
Thanks John,
I have the .6 too, it's big.. wacky focus...eh. Sure is neat to see the back to back coverage for spatial differences. I gotta do some of that
ebe - sorry 'bout that!!! i haven't used one of the red eye's myself (yet) but it is MUCH smaller than the century. i think that it just moved up my list of things i "need"
Thanks for the shots, John. For my next project, a wide angle is essential (primarily shooting vignettes of parents and children in a home setting).
What exactly do you mean by "not full zoom through." I have a .6 for my Sony with no noticable barrel distortation at full wide, and I zoom the whole length through. Obviously full zoom is wider than without the lens, but I don't notice any problems at any point.
I'm assuming that to avoid the distortion, I wouldn't have the DVX at full wide, right (i.e., take it out just a little).

Geez! It looks more like a semi-fisheye. Has anyone compared the barrel distortion between the Century 0.6X and the Pany Ana adapter? And *no* framegrabs on the Redeye site--not promising.

The Century .6 allows you to use the lower half of the zoom range, but once you start zooming past about Z55, it loses focus. It is impossible to achieve focus at any setting past about Z55.
They make a .7 that lets you use the full zoom range, but it's a much more expensive, larger, heavier lens. And Panasonic's .8x does full zoom through as well, and it's only a little more expensive than the Century, but it only delivers half as much of the wide-angle power as the Century does.
Been looking at the Red Eye for a while. Has anyone tried out/compared the 5x and the 7x. Also Jarred, didn't I read that you have a red eye one time with a 72mm thread?
