Chinese Ball or 40W Micro Space Light

I am all for innovative use of unconventional lights and fixtures. but I am a bit skeptical about those Corn lights. That price is pretty high, IMHO, for a re-purposed bulb, especially when you consider that the 150w Metal Halide bulbs they say that they can "Replace" can be had for like $20 or so. I am also pretty skeptical about the claims a lot of bulb and fixture makers make about "Equivalent light output". Bulb and fixture design go along way towards affecting the light output and light quality of a bulb/fixture combo. Then there is the question of CRI (and color temp) like Razzi16mm says I would bet those lights, designed to replace industrial bulbs have some real funky color. Those things in a china ball would probably make a pretty nice quality light, but I think you could get as good or better results with a $25 daylight high output CFL. But hey, if you got the cash to experiment with them, go for it and let us know how it looks.
