china ball lanterns

I would like to buy some china ball lanterns and use 300watt photo bulbs in them. Do you think an 18inch lantern will be safe? If not, is there a flame retarding spray I can coat the interior of the lantern to keep it from burning? Thanks.

Ha! I just asked this same question in another thread... I'm using a slightly larger lantern. I'm curious to know the point of "lantern-turns-fireball" as well....

I assume that you are going to use an ECA with the China Ball. As long as you keep the globe centered, a 300W ECA is fine in an 18" ball. I have used an ECT (500W) but I don't leave it on for a really extended period of time as the heat does begin to build up a bit.
