Chimera question

I'm about to invest in a basic lighting kit. I'm considering a Chimera kit like this http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/257304-REG/Chimera_8000_Video_Pro_Plus_1.html as one of the soft lights.

Is there an advantage to the Chimera over say the Lowel version, which I think is the Rifa?

What type of bulbs does the Chimera run on? Oddly enough the website doesn't specifically say whether they are tungsten or not.

I'd appreciate any other thoughts you might have. I'm hoping to stay away from tungsten and the heat issues and what it does to black fabrics with the Sony EX-1.

At the price, you can rest assured it's a tungsten lamp. If not, it would have another zero after the price.

The advantage I can see of this over the Lowel is that it comes with a fabric grid. That is a REALLY nice feature. The advantage of the Lowel, is that it can be used with both tungsten as well as fluorescent lamps. Something I do quite a lot.

While I won't deny the EX1 can have some issues under tungsten lighting with black fabrics, in a year and a half of ownership, I can say it has NEVER been an issue for me. I certainly wouldn't cut myself out of good lighting because of it. If you find it's a problem for you, just spend $100 and get the Tiffen filter. Problem solved.

Buy a used tota light, photoflex softbox, and a speed ring, and you can have a great soft source up to 750 watts for $300.
