Now I know I'm linking to an apple page, and yes, they are pimping their gear a bit. But forget about that. Everything their doing you can do with PCs with only a few slight software substitutions. This post is NOT about platforms (please keep it that way). This post is about how cool this set up is, from a power perspective. Hudson and I were talking a while back when I was advising him on setting up some audio post kit. Both him and I were impressed with the home setup that RR has at his home studio. I've even managed to duplicate most of the functionality at mine, albeit on a smaller scale. In light of that, I thought this article was pretty cool.
For you youngsters who grew up in the digital age, this may be no big deal, but to those of us who have written, produced and tracked major projects in the analog world, what is happening today is simply amazing. To recreate what I have in my basement right now, only ten years ago with analog gear, would have cost hundreds of thousands of dollars, some of it (like having an entire symphonic orchestra at my disposal - quality not "synthy" would not even have been possible). For those of you making really nice images, and wondering how to elevate your projects to the next level. One word: AUDIO.
