Check this crane out on E-bay

Re: Check this crane out on E-bay

Elvis,  Manhattan Beach is not too far from Hollywood.  You might be better off renting a crane from the big rental houses out there.  The price seems right, but I would make sure my tripod could support such a thing.

Re: Check this crane out on E-bay

Thanks Bill. I can rent it, but to be able to practice shots is a good thing. Trying to build up my camera package.
Thanks again for the input.

Just so you know that motorized head sell alone for practically nothing so I would be cautious about its ability to get smooth shots. Dont expect it to start and come to a complete stop smoothly.

Thanks Brett for the info. I was wondering about that. These Nu-angle guys have some interesting products.

I own one of the Model MP-101's with the extention cable. It has very smooth pans and tilts. Its main weakness is a lack of an "ultraslow" pan. Even the slowest mode (controlled by a slider switch) is not slow enough IMHO. However, it gets great battery life, and it's well built. If I was to rate it, I'd give it 4 out of 5 stars, just for the lack of "ultraslow", but I can't "hand pan" as smooth as this thing.

Re: Check this crane out on E-bay

SafetyO-
I wasnt doubting its ability to do a simple pan or tilt...only its ability to come to a smooth/seemless stop or start. Can you give you experience on that? If it cant come to a stop or start smoothly then you can only imagine how many shots you can forget being able to pull off professionally.

Re: Check this crane out on E-bay

I've used the motorized pan/tilt as well- VERY SMOOTH in operation- but no smooth start/stops so plan to edit your shots after the move starts and before the move ends. I wouldn't use it for everything- but it's very helpful for those smooth pans when you are zoomed all the way in.

I was pretty skeptical but for $100 this thing is actually kind cool.

Also for what it's worth you can do a smooth tilt AND pan at he same time which is hard to do steadily by hand.

-just my 2 cents...

Re: Check this crane out on E-bay

How sturdy is the thing? From the pics on their site, looks like it's flimsy. Is there any sway to it?
