Check out this music video -- any idea on the effect?

Maybe a 3d camera and they switched between the cameras? But that doesn't make sense because the closer objects move less and I would expect the opposite...Hmmmmmm, Maybe they shot it with 2 cameras and masked the main person and then let the background alternate between the two cameras?

Thats my guess, I'm probably not even close. Hope someone on here knows how it was really done. I'm curious myself.

There was a much better example of this making the rounds a couple days ago, wish I could remember what it was..

Found it:

Achieved with two cameras and a morphing tool I'm betting.

How is this achieved with two cameras? And what morphing tool is this?

You shoot it like you shoot 3D, except instead of combining them, you morph them back and forth like that. It gives a pseudo 3D effect without the need for hardware.

I don't know what they used, but I've liked results I've seen with RE:Flex.

EDIT: Ugh, the morphing at 1:59 looks god-awful.

Hm this effect might actually work on a friends music video for a part of it...that is of course if he ever finishes it and gets a studio version haha

While I think this effect is really cool in small spurts, I find it near unbearable for an entire music video. It makes me want to reach into the screen and scream "Stay still dammit!"

I think you could get close just by moving an early canon dslr back and forth to get that awful rolling shutter going. then slow it down a bit, viola, there you have it. The latest and greatest effect, called rolling shutter madness. OR better yet, should be called seasick!!!
