Check out my new website!

I would be interested in some feedback on my website. I am experimenting with this style I created where there is no text on the entire site. It's all images and the viewer has to figure out how to navigate it.

It takes a little pondering but that was intentional. (warning - it takes a while to load if you aren't on high speed, I know I have a 56k)

let me know what you think.

Hi Cody

I love the design and layout; but the whole figuring out part is kind of.....

Well You know. It's not really 'artsy' but more annoying.

Nice concept, but the out of focus shots are annoying.

And like John said, a little to "hide and seek" for the links.

love the idea and navigation was pretty straight-forward. cool!

i think all browsers show the link information at the bottom of the window when you mouse-over a hotspot and you gave all the sub-sections straight-forward names, so that should help people alot if they don't get the gist of it.

i think you did well. congrats on the Beck Guero DVD, i love that album!

Ahh. mystery meat navigation.

I really like the images and the layout, but If I am honest, I like to know where I am going when I click on something.

Chris

Very artsy. Fun if someone is interested in looking and searching. But may irritate and/or scare away people from your site.

man you guys would have a field day with Richard (donnie darko) Kelly's "Southland Tales" website! he he

i think it's ok for an artist to show he or she's creativity... we are individuals, its alright if your website stands out. joe schmo isn't going to your site anyhow Cody, so you don't have to make it look like an online newspaper.

its not impossible - click the lens to see your work, click the envelope to contact you, makes sense to me...

the only image link i would change is that when someone clicks the picture of you, that goes to "about me"

I'd exit any site that worked like yours within seconds of clicking on it.

It's horrible site design :\ A website is supposed to make the finding of information easy, and what you have, while looking nice, is far too annoying.

I like it! I really do.

BUT nobody will EVER find your site because there's NO TEXT for search engines to crawl. You've made a common mistake and it's going to hurt you. What's the point of having a clever design if nobody will ever see it. Add a few pages that have text content as well as TEXT LINKS so bots will follow them and crawl those pages too. You won't regret it.

Good luck!

I liked it too, but i have to agree with everyone here, a bit too artsy for a beginner...

I'm going to search through Southland Tales website (thanks for the link John), even if it takes me days...because I'm a huge fan of Richard Kelley...

You have to "want" to search through a website in this style...good luck!

i thought the design was awesome, nice concept. however, like some of the guys said, it could get a little annoying if you really wanted to find information.

maybe when you hover over a picture you could have text come up to tell you what the link is? keep the concept, just tell people where they're going? just a thought....

wow, Thank you for all the responses everyone. The diverse replies are really interesting.

My last site designs of codyb.com have all been very simple and clean. They drifted in the area of being too corporate and professional and with this one I thought I might as well attempt to make a site that says a lot about who I am with out actually typing it out. With the last one I also attempted to get hired, with this one I would much rather collaborate with a fellow artist. Also, I tend to get a lot of international hits and I think this would be more appealing to them. It is a bit "arty" but then again so am I, and I don't know why I should try and hide it. I hope that clears up a few things.

PK, I was well aware that I may get screwed via search engines, but I think it's a small price to pay. It's funny, but I get a lot of hits from people randomly searching their own names on google (who would do such a thing! ;) ) and for some reason my website continues to be on the top of the "cody brown" search in google and yahoo.

Also, just checking, but can everyone find my movies? I have like 10 of them on there and it doesn't seem like all of you realize that clicking on the camera will take you to a page of the cameras movies.

thanks everyone!! I would love to hear more.

"Also, just checking, but can everyone find my movies? I have like 10 of them on there and it doesn't seem like all of you realize that clicking on the camera will take you to a page of the cameras movies"....

There's the problem with the design....too hard to navigate.

Lmao

Exacty Pookie.

wow, Thank you for all the responses everyone. The diverse replies are really interesting.

What diverse replies? We all said the same thing "We cant find anything."

You gotta throw some roadmaps in this site; I'd spend about a half second on it if I didnt know any better. You might find it artsy and ambiguous and prententious....

No wait; thats exactly what people dont like.

So, you asked for some critiquing and got some; or was this a "Hey guys let me get your opinion but only tell me what I want to hear" kind of posts?

Put some signs up man. The layout and dsign are wonderful. The lack of knowing where we are sucks.

I might as well attempt to make a site that says a lot about who I am

So you havent a clue of who, what and where you are huh? Are you saying Cody Brown is completely lost? Are you telling me you have no clue whatsoever as to who you are?

I must be the odd little ducky then. I kinda dug it.

The only thing I would seriously consider is doing the following : roll over a pic, it shows the category in the action line at the bottom of the browser, and maybe some audio hints about categories. Also, you may not have a lot of material now , personal and professional, but when you do it could become really confusing IMO.

I like the concept, but the execution needs a little work.

Cheers:)

What?? Read your post again...you're saying the exact same thing everyone else is...
again and again...
We all liked it...a little confusing...it's up to him if he wants to change it...

But just for the record, I disagree with all of you because:
A. I like it.
B. It's too confusing.
C. It's really up to him to change it.

Hahaha Phil, that list was funny.

Cody Brown,

Good job in creating a site that doesn't scream, "Stale!". Most video sites do.

The internet is what you make it. Ask yourself if you're adding to it. Hear me out now, Your site may add good content to the 'net, but you're back to zero if info is not easily accessed. If "the search" has a core role in the site, then that's rad.

I like the layout, as others have also. Great start.
