it's an old AIS zoom so it's going to be soft. the new AF-D zooms are a huge improvement over the old ones.
it's one-touch push pull so it's like being a pirate ARRRR!
it's not a constant aperture so it's not ideal for zoom shots. it should be workable though.
it's got 6 aperture blades. so it's hexagon bokeh all the way but they don't fit together flush. so it's like a ninja star up until f/11. ninja pirates? (i copyright that idea for all future movies/book/graphic novels
)
side note - i've seen this ninja star bokeh in heaps of features. i wonder why this is?
it's normal focus throw is 45 degrees.... it's crazy sensitive to any movement. but it's got a macro mode at 105mm (macro mode is only available at 105mm) so the focus throw increases to 90 degrees. but it's sill no where near enough for 105mm... needs to be like 320 degrees. but no zoom in the world except cine zooms have that kind of focus throw.
normal minimum focus is 1.5 meters. this it just a bit too far away for my liking. at 105 in macro mode, minimum focus is 0.5 meters.
it's pretty slow at f/3.2-4 so it can really only be used outside in full sun.
all that aside. this is my first zoom. i saw it as my local and just had to get it. it was only $39 AUD = $34 US
photos of it attached to my Nikon FG-20. YAY!
