I'm always looking for cheap off the shelf stuff that might enhance my work. This one is simple stupid. We had an old expando baby gate we used for pets, and had been sitting around for some time. I tripped over it, cursed, and had an aha moment. I was looking at an adjustable cucoloris! When retracted, it blocks a lot of light, when expanded, it lets lots of light through; it is like an adjustable scrim. The pattern changes with the amount of extension. Tried it with a 650 fresnel, and the light patterns at 12ft are pleasingly bland. It breaks up a plain wall very nicely. The one I have is wood, so a little distance is needed between the gate and light to avoid fire; it is tinder after all. If you don't have one sitting around, Wallys has them, and for a lot less than anything from the grip vendors.
