Cheapest way to get legit Vegas

I'm a long time Premiere user who's frustrated with the 24p problems (flicker and strobbing) and looking to move to Vegas. What's the cheapest way to do it WHILE staying legit?

Thanks,

Justin

but be aware of the rules to an academic version, if you want it to STAY legit.....usually you can't do any commercial work (stuff you get paid for)

Not true with Vegas, once you leave school, you can then use your Academic version for real world projects, plus you can just upgrade to the next version. By the way, there is absolutly no difference between the academic and full versions of vegas, in fact they are the same dowload and same disc, it doesn't even say academic version. Nice.

Well in that case, I will give up one more student link: www.studica.com

Also we just became dealers for Sony software, so I can get that software at a decent DVXuser discount. Please email me at rush@evsonline.com if you want a quote. Our local Sony rep is really cool too, and very good about questions and such.

What are the issues? There are other Premiere users here that don't have any issues. Maybe you just need some Adobe Education?

Academic software?

I use the Academic version of Vegas and will buy academic every chance I get. I am not ashamed. I'm a hack amatuer in my home making wannabe short films and not in the business of making a living off it. I consider myself a virtual student anyway.

Legit? No. Grey area? Barely. Do I care? Not really.

I work for a non-profit organization and was able to qualify for the academic software that way. I bought from http://www.gradware.com -- they were helpful and responsive. It was pretty easy to get approval (minimal paperwork).

John, thanks for the message back. Actually, I have tons of Adobe Education, thanks. I teach video production at St. Lawrence College in Kingston, Ontario, and the course is heavy in Premiere Pro 1.5, so my knowledge is pretty good.

My issues with Premiere Pro 1.5 are with the 24P flicker and strobbing issues. Even when I shot in 24PA, and do everything that adobe has said to eliminate the flicker, I still have issues with bright areas on-screen.

I've heard people rave about Vegas in how hassle-free it handles 24P. I just want to stay legit since I make a living shooting and cutting video.

Typically you need to BE a student, but you could probably purchase it "through" the school you teach at, or at least hopefully have it delivered there to your attention to receive a discount. Some online stores are easier than others, with some needing everything just short of a DNA sample, and others practically taking your word for it that you're a student.
