Cheapest way to convert my tripod into a dolly?

Hey guys,

I was wondering if you could help me out. I just bought a jib (Kessler KC-Lite) which I absolutely love. I want to add some complexity by getting the jib mobile. I would also just love to have the ability to traverse more distance than my simple slider allows.

I was wondering if there were cheap ways to convert my Manfrotto 546b and 055XPROB into dolly systems either by adding wheels of some sort or a conversion kit to get it running on track. I know with wheels I'll be confined to only the smoothest surfaces and it won't be able to compare to track. I'm just not sure if I can afford or if a conversion kit even exists for these tripods in the sub $500 range.

If you guys know any solutions in the ~$150 and less range and then also in the $300-$500 range I'd love to hear about both to weigh my options.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Why not build a skateboard dolly? Buy the wheels, then hit the hardware store for some plywood and bolts. With good thick plywood you can build a strong platform for your tripod or jib assembly to sit on. It'll run on PVC, metal pipe, or (with correct spacing) professional dolly track.

There are a lot of vendors out there, but I got my skate wheels from Glideshot for about $350 and they work great: http://www.glideshot.com/products_dollykits.html

Ahhhhh I'm horrible with DIY set ups. When I touch a drill or saw people around me (or myself) tend to get injured. That, or whatever I attempted to build craps out the second time using it.
