cheapest solution for recording in the field when audio quality doesnt matter

I am going to be recording some interviews and conversations for note taking with my Rode NTG2 mic. I have an HV20 that I could use to record the audio onto miniDV if I have to, but I might have over 100hrs of audio and that is a lot of dv tapes and use of the camera heads. I may only have 20hrs or audio so I dont want to buy a $300 field recorder (and I dont have $300). Is there a cheap solution like maybe an old school tape recorder and an XLR to 1/8" in plug?

There's all kinds of old recorders floating around, you can generally find the "walkman" style at thrift shops for under $5.

I assume your NGT2 has battery so won't need phantom power??

Audio quality WILL suck - but you said you didn't care.

Have lots of batteries and clean the heads.

Good luck.

I picked up a little Olympus voice recorder at Radio Shack for $30 or so, as a quick emergency voice recorder. I ran a lapel mic into it, and it sounded eh. Couldn't sync it for nothing. It was in and out so bad, no matter how hard I tried. iRivers on the other hand, are a bit pricier, but they sound really good. I haven't actually used one myself though, so I can't comment on how it would sync with the video.

Sweet thanks for the info guys, I will check out some thrift stores first and see what I can find.
