Hi Everyone,
I don't know if it's the right place to post this topic but I didn't know where to do it .

I would like to know what is the cheapest place to shoot a feature Film in Europe, and how much does it cost. Some people told me romania, others Ukraine, I would like to sort it out.

I want to produce an action feature film and would like to know where is the cheapest to do it.

Regard

Try Lithuania, way more cheaper than Romania, and they have experience with the Hollywood crews.

I have spent the past 11 years traveling and working in Europe. Budapest is a good bet. They have experienced crews and is a great city and area. Many action films have been shot there. Romania is very cheap also depending on where you go. They are a member of the EU now and prices are rising. Russia can be very cheap as well. Slovakia is still relatively cheap as is Prague.

As a rule of thumb, a countries average per capita income will tell you if it would be cheap to shoot there. Some European cities are very expensive. Moscow is the most expensive city in the world right now. But if you go to other cities like St Petersburg, it is much cheaper. Do some searching online.

Stay in the EU if you can, therefore not Russia or the Ukraine, I can't imagine that shooting in Russia is cheap, in fact the opposite.

From traveling around I would say the Baltic states - particularly, Lithuania, or Latvia, Latvia has large studios that were used during the Soviet Union for Television production. Lithuania recently had the film Trans Siberia shooting there quite successfully. Some of these states may also provide incentives for filming.

I just came back from Russia. I was shooting there for a month. I know for a fact that it is very cheap to shoot in certain areas. Moscow is the exception. People will take whatever money or job they can get.

Good. Would be awesome to shoot in Russia it's a pretty amazing place.

Ive spent a couple of months there and from my very brief dealings with authorities I kind of figured that you would be mired in bureaucracy and hounded by local officials. Just signing in and out of a town is problematic enough.

My dream would be to go back to Latvia to shoot a film, they have this massive Tzarist fortress in Daugavpills which was also used by the soviets, would be a spectacular location.

Yes most of Europe is amazing, I love it. The locations can be so interesting. I really like Russia and its people. I have Russian roots myself in my family and my partner is an ex Russian citizen living in the USA now. We had no worries.

The economy is not real good as it is in the USA. That is why people are eager to work and cooperate. The Russian people are very friendly, smart and enterprising. Go to smaller cities and you will do well. Moscow is sooo expensive. If you have some dependable locals working as your guides and translators, you should have no problems. Things have changed a lot in the past 20 years. The only place I was bothered by government officials was in Red Square and outside a federal building in St Petersburg. They didn't want us filming there.
