Well, my baby will be here tomorrow.
(G5 2.5) with GeForce 6700 Ultra hehe.
Anyway, so I am going to be using firewire for awhile. Wanted to know what your opinions were on a cheaper monitor (under $500) that I can view my footage off of FCPHD. I don't need anything huge.

Re: Cheapest external monitor (Bang for the Buck)

After UPS destroyed the used video monitor I got off eBay, I went to BestBuy and found an Advent 14" flat-tube with S-video for $109. Then I found an open-box version for $89! I've been using it for 3 days now with an ADS Pyro AV Link out of FCP. Seems to work quite well so far. No underscan or blue buttons, of course, but it's hard to beat the price.

Also, I hate you for getting a new machine. ;D I'm still plowing away on a DP533. Of course, it was either get a DVX or a G5, so I'm not too upset at my choice.

I just bought the Sony PVM-14L1 13-Inch Studio Monitor. It is $490.00 at B&H. It has 600 lines resolution, is switchable to 16/9 and has P-22 phosphor. It does not underscan or have blue gun only but I like it anyway for the price.

It's small enough to lug around (barely) and the color seems accurate. You can calibrate it using a piece of blue gel. YMMV

This is what I'm using:

It's a sweet little 14" Toshiba tv for $149 that has component (!!!) S-Video and composite with stereo audio inputs on the rear, and as if that's not enough another set of component + headphones on the front.
The image quality is realy good and being able to have three video sources routed to it, all controlled from the included universal remote, is a total bonus. For that price, there's no beating it in my mind.
