Cheapest carbon fiber booms have now gone up in price?

So I assume you guys have heard of the lux falcon boom. Yeah yeah it's getting good reviews and is the cheapest carbon fiber boom pole you can find (used to be like 100-135 bucks) Buy why's it that every-time there is one of these start-up companies and the product gets popular that the price goes way up? When it first came out the 12 foot one was $135 and the 9 foot one was only $99. Well now today I go online to buy one and the 12 foot one is $150! and the 9 foot one is $120! I knew the first price was too good to be true, just luring broke filmmakers in to get publicity only to crank the price up. What's it going to be next, $300? It's just such a dishonest way to do business in my opinion. Here's his ebay link with the products: http://myworld.ebay.com/lux_cinema/?_trksid=p4340.l2559 We should message him and ask him to bring the price down. I already messaged them asking why its suddenly higher, but I haven't recieved a response (big surprise right?) I might buy one anyways but it just makes me mad.

So why didn't you buy one when you knew the price was so low rather than ***** about it now that they are charging a whopping $15 more?

This is my product/company (lux cinema) and I'd like to clear some things up.

I regret the price increase but I just couldn't afford to keep selling them that low. I run the company virtually by myself and I put a lot of effort into offering a product at an unheard of price which can really help low budget filmmakers get more professional results. It is disheartening to see such a post on a forum I am such an active member of.

First of all, I don't plan on increasing the price again, period. The initial price was me testing the waters seeing if I wanted to continue selling my product. I discovered people loved the product (check out my ebay feedback for heavens sake), but I couldn't keep running things with prices that low. The price is only $15 more and my shipping is very affordable. People seem more than willing to continue buying the boom and I get emails thanking me sometimes for offering these booms. That's why I am doing this. I'm not a businessman, I am a college film student and I saw a need for this product and I just sort of stumbled into this business.

So yeah, I don't know what else to say. Thanks to those of you who support us. Overall the reaction has been overwhelmingly positive. People say it is lightweight and durable and a great deal but don't take it from me. I find it odd I have to come on here and defend my products PRICE when the price is still WAY lower than ANY other carbon fiber boom pole available ANYWHERE.

Again thanks for the support and I apologize about the price increase. It won't go up again.

Sincerely,

Jackson Miller

WHat is the OP even talking about.

These have been sold for years, a 15 dollar increase in 2 years is really nothing.

Honestly, grow up. Things go up, you should've bought one earlier had you needed something on such a budget.

for a carbon fiber boom pole, the price is still great.

I've heard nothing but positive things in any review of these on several forums and do plan on buying one myself.

I have zero issue with a less than 10% price increase over several years.

That said, candy bars aren't 3 for a dollar anymore like they were in 1990, I"M MAD, LET'S ALL DEMAND DISCOUNTS WE AREN'T ENTITLED TOO

All right, all right. It's just hard to afford all this gear! Does it at least come with the shock mount shown in the background of this pic from your site? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Give me a break! Try pricing a mainstream vendor like K-Tek or PSC or Loon and get a more realistic perspective as to what quality gear costs. As for the shock-mount, instead of worrying about whether a $5 piece of plastic is included, get a pro-quality mount like one of the Rycote Invision series of mounts and do the job right.

No it does not. Nor does any other boom I know of. It says clearly on my site and ebay that the accessories (which are only in a few pics) are just for illustration purposes.

We are working on the possibility of supplying some shock-mounts for somewhere around $20-30 however and we may offer a bundle deal.

As for gear being hard to afford, I hear you and that's the whole reason why I started selling these. I couldn't afford an expensive carbon fiber boom so I came up with my own solution and now am offering it to others.

If anyone has any other questions/concerns or even critiques and suggestions from people who have actually USED the boom feel free to ask me here or by sending me an email to admin@lux-cinema.com .

Okay, 2 points to be made here:

6. No Profiteering
Please don’t try selling your products here unless you're an official site sponsor. It costs a lot of money to administer this site, those costs are defrayed by our sponsors, and it's not fair to paying sponsors to have people using the site they pay for used to promote other products. This means no commercial signatures or usernames and no advertising, unless you're an official DVXUser site sponsor. Uncleared advertisement signatures and posts will be removed. Those wanting to become site sponsors should contact Jason Ramsey at advertising@dvxuser.com

And two, if you do not like the price, don't buy. Pretty simple logic here. Complaining about a vendor's pricing is like urinating into the wind. Only person ending up smelling bad is you. And it's pretty uncool.

Jackson, you're free to continue discussing your product here insofar as we dont expect any manufacturer of any product to not be able to engage with members to clarify a product point a member has asked a question on. Links to where to purchase etc are the no no.

Oh whoops, forgot I had that link in there. That sounds fair to me.

I'll check back on this thread every now and again to see if anyone has actual questions regarding features etc, but emails may work best since the line between promoting and not promoting is a thin/blurry one.

Let me jump in and say THANK YOU to Jackson for supplying such a reasonably priced product that to all appearances is good quality. I came within a click of ordering an aluminum boom pole for about the same money earlier today, glad I held off. You can expect to get an order from me in the next couple of days.

$150 for a carbon fibre boom pole is an absolute bargain and I only wish they were available in the UK, I bought some Gtizo ones and they were well over $200 each plus delivery.

"the product gets popular that the price goes way up?"

Somebody fell asleep in economics class.
It's called "Supply and demand". I raise the price until the negative impact it has on sales outweighs the increased profit per unit.
Why does an Arri Matte Box that costs them $42 to manufacture cost over $1K.. because people will pay it.

I'm assuming this is hyperbole?

Slight.
It MIGHT cost them $142. Plus they have a marketing budget, the R&D they put in on the front end, etc.. etc.... All told it's probably only a 100% to 150% markup. In my little bit of retail experience our standard mark up was to double the wholesale price and add $1.

Back to the main point though, price is determined by what people will pay. If I am selling all of Product A I can produce I'm going to start raising the price. I'm going to keep raising the price until it impacts sales to a degree that it reduces profit.

Hey Doc,

You know I love ya, but I don't think Jackson is actively trying to push his gear here. As a fellow manufacturer (of a competing product, and competition is a good thing), I respect what Jackson is trying to do here. Too many people do not know what is involved in manufacturing products, and sometimes cost goes up. Sometimes a supplier raises prices. Maybe an item was initially priced too low to begin with. It happens, and Jackson is justifying (and I think rightly so) why he raised his prices.

LOL EXACTLY what I was thinking!!! I paid $700 for my 12' K-Tek and this guy is whining about a $150 pole??? People just dont realize what things cost.

Gosh, I feel like I'm a 'trend' setter... I got the 12' @ $149... and while I'll probably not use it at 12', I did buy the longer one because the prices for the various 6' poles were in the same price range...

Since I'm not going to be doing daily heavy duty production, it seemed like a reasonable choice. I've not had time to test it... but after tomorrow... have a final exam... I'll have more time...
