Cheaper Panasonic HD

why does it have to be this way? .. the handle is pretty cool with the fog glass action going... maybe the whole body should've been made like that...

:undecided

It was posted on the boards, a few threads about it IIRC; AshG started one that talked about it. Thing is, we don't know a thing about it other than it's 3CCD. So there's not much to talk about yet.

Yeah I just re-read. Sigh. Not a single thing aside from AVCHD yadda yadda...

Bleh. Canon and Sony watchdog here.

Looks like a consumer cam. Way too small. Unless thats the next gen of ultra-small professional/prosumer HD cams. Now that would be cool.

Yes, it looks totaly consumer like. Looks like it'll be some time until we hear from HVX's little brother :-( It looks like it could be a nice replacement for the gs400 though.

Looks pretty cool. I just hope that it has more features than the Sony UX1 and SR1, AVCHD didn't look too bad on those. I also hope it's better than the Canon HV10, which seems to rule the roost in terms of quality for low-cost HDV at the moment and hopefully the price is right too.

By the way, anybody actually use AVCHD yet? Can all the NLE's edit it? There really doesn't seem to be much discussion about it.

Any word on 24fps and gamma curves? Would be cool for the consumer line as talked about in other threads.

That thing doesn't even have a viewfinder.

I really hope we will see some sort of prosumer-avchd-camera from Panasonic next year or even before that, but that just seems unlikely.

There's another one out on engadget. Mentions 1080i and HDMI output and 3CCD. No mention of 24p yet, and it looks like it's still completely consumer.

It has five microphones on it so it actually captures surround sound. I have no idea how well that can work; I mean, are they five highly directional mics?

In any case, without 24P I doubt it's going to have much impact here, but it's been getting some great reviews on SimplyDV and CamcorderInfo.

yeah, doubt many people will get it here, maybe some for a B cam. but 5 mics is wierd. Hopefully there are none where you hold the cam, or else you will be hearing alot of cloth track. (or in this case the non-intentional cloth track) lol. That 5 mic setup is quite interesting none the less. It leaves me in a sort of confusion. Perhaps its meant to sound more appealing to the consumer than its actual practicality? who knows...
