Cheap wireless director's feed

You can use two of these at a time and they don't conflict. You just have to make sure you power on one matching set at a time, have them pair, then power on and pair the other set.

You could probably use more than that, but on some shoots (especially ad's for some reason) there will be expectations of a lot of units being handed out. Cost wise these would be great but having 6 or so transmitters stacked up around your rig would be kind of klunky.

On a big job you probably wouldn't be handing these out anyway, but those local ad's with visions of grandeur where everybody wanting a headset hanging around their neck...
But handy to have anyway. I will probably pick a couple up just incase.

For my low cost courtesy and talkback system I bought an old VHF radio mic transmitter and use low cost Baofeng UV-5R walkie talkies as the receivers.

Works on the legal 175.525 Mhz frequency in the UK and gives pretty good coverage that is well away from my UHF radio mic's and talent IEM's.

Thanks Tom, I'm gonna check one out, it may come in handy some day ..
+ I'm a gear slut, an affliction that many of us have.

Hey, just picked up three of these, I see they used to sell for $89.99 --- so the $9.99 is a great price. They will be very useful for some small events where there are two camera operators.

No it isn't, they lowered the price to $9.99ea, so I just order two of them myself. Guess they are closing them out.

OK cheap dirt cheap ;~), got me I will try a pair at that price. That is just a silly price.

Thanks for the heads up.

Was looking at the user manual for the Monoprice unit, and found some interesting statements. The 'slight delay' between the audio being spoken and being received by the receiver is 1 second. Which is a chunk of time...and the other item that caught my eye was the statement in the "Preparation for Use" section:

"1. Attach either the belt clip or cold shoe mount to the receiver. Note that once installed, it cannot be removed"

Yikes, a one way street for your choice between the belt clip and cold shoe mount...as the Indiana Jones movie said "Choose wisely!"

One second is little more than "slight" in our world. Maybe it's relative to an hour.
It's ok if it's not sync sound.

I wonder if that delay is continuous, or only for start up. Will saying "ahhhhhhhhh....." get the connection going? Or, does it mean that everything is 30-60 frames behind being in sync?

I guess I will have to wait and see. However, even if I can only use them as a communicator, for $28/pr shipped they are cheap enough. And, that was what this thread was suggesting using them for anyway.

1 sec. would be crazy long, but like Tom my main reason to get them is for a suit who "needs" to have a headset hanging around their neck.

I will look at what makes the connection "permanent". Usually this translates to "not easy".

As someone who has used them many times, it is NOT 1 second. I haven't measured it, but another reviewer did and said it was 105 ms (0.105 seconds), so maybe it was a manual typo and there was supposed to be period in front of the 1. Like I previously said, audio stays clearly in sync with the picture, and I am someone who has been editing video for a living for 15 years. If the sync was off by one second, I would notice. Here is a sample, unadjusted--

I look forward to trying my Rode SmartLav+ microphone with the unit...and also an Aputure A.Lav kit, that has the TRRS also...

I also have a few Panasonic headsets around, so will give those a try with the transmitter.

I bought one before the price was cut in half. Haven't used it yet, but quality looks like about 10 bucks worth. But if if works for the purpose and the client is happy that's pretty darn cheap.

The connection is not a one shot with the mount. You can pry the tab in the center up slightly and pop off the clip and swap it. It's a plastic part so I wouldn't swap them a lot and I would be gentle with the prying but it's not difficult.

When I get a chance I'm going to run a couple of tests against a lectro set up and see how they come out. I'm mostly curious about distance and interference since the lectro's will have a lot better mic on them sound quality, except noise, is probably really unfair.

Also it looks like it may be possible to pair a transmitter with more than one receiver. If that works then this is an excelent set up to hand off to all those people who "need" headsets hanging around their necks.

"is probably really unfair"
Yeah, like comparing a Yugo to a Porsche.
In any case, I couldn't resist buying one for that price. I'll evaluate it soon.

I will see you and raise you one....twenty bucks for two sets, that I am sure I will probably not use but just had to buy...

One other note, the mic input on the transmitter is a 4 pole TRRS connector, so if you are plugging in a TRS source you will need a TRS to TRRS adapter. I use this one and it works, but you have another input flopping around--

Rode makes this one that would probably work too--

Found one on ebay for $1.39 . I imagine the Rode one is excellent but cost as much as the two pairs I bought.

Well, mine have disappeared into limbo. UPS says they handed them off to USPS. USPS says they never got them. Sent Monoprice a email (could not fine a phone number). Maybe, someday, I will get them. Maybe not.

SIGH!
